Bear markets are often dreaded moments of slow crypto activities and often times we are encouraged to save as much for the almighty bear market to come get us wealthy.
Bear market more about saving every penny (called a builders market where strict measures are taking to build your crypto portfolio) and hoping that it turns you into a millionaire in the bull markets,
Some bear markets can last for years and lot of people are willing to wait.

Having a crypto savings that adds no interest or earns any additional income to it can be considered a waste of time if we think about this well. I chose to keep a $100 because in the next 4years it will become $400 or more and the work done to earn this income within that time frame is called "waiting".

This is one position I have stuck myself since 2021 hoping that I can always add more to my hive savings.
Eventually things happened and I have to break into this savings.
While the saved hives added no value throughout this period, now they have been diverted to meet both immediate and emergency needs. If luckily there's a price pump or a twist in things and the bulls arrive suddenly,there is nothing to sell or take profit from. One good lesson learnt here.

Investment can be far better than some form savings. For instance it might be far better to save some HBD as a form of investments than to keep thousands of hive in wait for god knows when.
If I decide to save a 100HBD for a year I get an annual 20% interest which is an extra 20HBD on my savings for a year. Assuming I let this lie for 4years and if I am not wrong with this calculations, 4years might mean a cumulative interest of 80HBD on my capital, which sums everything to 180 HBD.
Keeping hive in saving for 4years will earn me nothing.
While I could still use the accumulated 180HBD to for something meaningful or be even trade it at the appropriate time.

Saving money/crypto is a good idea, but making this a purposeful savings that can be withdrawn to meet some functions or financial purchase is a good one. Investing our savings would attract some extra earnings in them which might be equally useful.

While waiting for a bull market to trade a token before accomplishing a project there are multiples of ways one can earn more and use these monies to achieve a whole lot even before a bull market is signaled.

Taking advantage of the multiple earning streams in hive is one way.
Both the HBD savings, curation rewards and the one you think is a smaller version of the 2.9% interest in HP while there are several other means I may not have known or included here.
