Plastic or Aluminum utensils, Which will you prefer in your kitchen

Hello Hive.

I purchased one of the most popular pots around here. Picasso is sure a brand that has trends for years.

Welcome to another episode of my shopping experience and today we are talking about kitchen utensils and which do we prefer between plastics and aluminum or glass cooking wares.
Before then I hope that you are healing up quickly and getting better our dearest @dswigle, my prayers are with you.

For today's shopping experience I went to hunt for some cooking utensils as I have only recently moved out of my fathers house to live on my own. Daddy's girl has to grow up someday and be on her own.

I never envisaged that I will have too many needs moving out of the family house at this time and crucial economic state of the country. I thought that I was moving into some sort of freedom of my own not knowing the encompassing challenges of living alone and having to fend for myself completely.

The first things I did to ease the burden was to make a budget in order of the most pressing needs.
Yesterday was the turn to buy Pots and some Buckets for storing water.

I realized that the preference for buying either glass wares, plastic or aluminum depends on the type of family we have and the budget at hand.
In a family where we have mostly children you will not appreciate the sight of broken ceramic or glass plates and cups not to talk of teenagers learning how to cook in your kitchen 😃.

Although I am an adult still these thing break easily in my hand and instead of having to replace an item over and over again, I will rather buy the durable plastics that I can handle.
I once broke the glass cover of a pot and that pot has remained idle ever since.

I bought the Almighty piccasso products here a set of 4post here for $8.54/7k in naira.
This could have been sold for 5k if not because of the recent subsidy removal.

Then I got the black small size plastic drum $4.88/ 4k naira, this will be used for storing water needed for cooking and other activities in the house.

Next I bought a smaller bucket for cereals and some raw food items. This was needed since rodents and rats are a common thing in our household here. To prevent contacting deadly disease, we used buckets like this to store grains.
This cost only $1.83/ 1500 naira.

Much as I am trying to meet with some hive savings goals, my relocation came as an emergency and that will be dealt with in a next post.
You might have noticed that I did some frequent withdrawals recently, the hive funds have really been beneficial in helping me get settled in and while trying to meet this needs am working with budgets that could help me save a little at a time while I purchase these emergency needs.

Which class of items would you prefer in your kitchen ceramics, glass or plastics.

Just like you, I also enjoy buying utensils at home and I am buying it usually when on sale. Happy shopping my dear friend and happy Market Friday too!

In my house (and my mom's and grandmothers) we tend to use a lot of recycled containers from food we purchase. The soybeans I buy end up in plastic ice cream containers. Soups end up in yogurt containers or margerine containers. However, it is nice to have better, sturdier containers sometimes (our rice hangs out in a big Tupperware container, same as flour and sugar).

Glass and Ceramic look nice but aren't durable. I'll typically go for steel for durability. Aluminum as lightweight alternative to steel. Plastics where reasonable. Wood can also be nice (Polished Coconuts make decent cups).

Hope moving out works well for you.

Maybe you can post on #Frugal about the hunt for your new home. I'd love to hear about it.

I also make use of recycled containers, this very one is needed for when I want to store larger quantity foodstuff.
Is stainless steel materials more expensive expensive compared to aluminum?
I didn't even find out
I just bought what I thought was at reasonable price and was nearby.

Nobody uses wood these days 🤓😃
Won't it be expensive to craft out wooden utensils.

I will sure post about my hunt for a new home after the contest post.
Maybe the community will understand why I needed to move in times like this.

Thanks for stopping by.

Yes. Please post about starting out. Or even questions about starting out to get ideas from the community. That would be awesome. Wooden utensils are being mass produced for restaurants and for home parties as an alternative to single use plastics. They aren't actually that expensive. Not that durable either but actually better than I would have though.

Between Steel and Aluminum. Steel is typically cheaper in Canada but can rust if not cared for well. However, rust isn't actually all that bad as the rust is a useful iron supplement for people. Overall I like steel/cast iron more than aluminum.....however, you can make your own aluminum cups/plates/pots at home if you have a little ingenuity and a lot of soda (coca cola) cans :)

Because I am pretty settled in this house, I choose the glass as it is more durable (for me) in the long run. Plus, I think it stays nicer looking. I choose ceramic dishes as they are easier to clean and they are actually much more durable than they look. I agree, starting off with plastic makes sense, economically and durability. I have stainless steel pots and pans, but, and I did start life on my own with them, but, they were gifted. I would have bought what I could afford otherwise.

I think using recycled jars/containers is a given that everyone does. It just makes sense to use what you have on hand.

It was a huge surprise to me how much I needed to buy when I moved away from home. Fortunately, when I did move, it wasn't the hardship it is now to live on your own.

Those big buckets for water are great. Ditto with keeping those pesky rodents at bay!! Healthier too! Thanks for sharing your journey with us! I look forward to reading more about your emergency!

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday

I can relate, although I will say that you are enduring a bigger hardship at the moment with your economy's state.

Because you have such a good head on your shoulders, you will rise above and navigate your way through and when you get to a better place, you will look back with pride that you were able to move forward with life.

The demands on your life right now may seem overwhelming, but, step by step, day by day... you can do this.

I am feeling better. Surgery heals and no problems, so all is well. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers.

I am always happy to see you in my posts.

it is a courageous step to live separately and independently. I think it's great that you made it. in our country, young people often agree to rent a house together, as this helps to save money. You did the right thing by making a budget and acting systematically. I wish you success in this! 😀
