Introduction

A good number of mobile data suscription rates exist for the categories of networks available and if you want to see your Blogging experience as a means to earn more rather than spend more you have to look up for the best rate at cheap price, not just that alone one has to be equally sure of the strength of their network.
It will not be worth if if I get very cheap suscription but a poor network coverage that cannot keep online and as at when needed.
So we are looking at best network strength, best deal and cheap price of a network subscription that will give one the best blogging Experience on #hive
Various video AMA takes places on both #hivetwitter, discord and other Hive dApps, the best network will keep you connected without constant glitch.

Mobile data consumption rates depends on two factors

  • The network provider charges
  • The model of phones we use, either 1,2,3 or 4g phones.

Iphone's and Samsung products have the highest data consumption rate for streaming the internet
You will possible consume 1g worth of data within 30mins or less depending on the qualities of the uploaded YouTube or Instagram videos.
While instagram is one App I have known with the highest network consumption rate compared to. Facebook, Twitter and the others. I am not sure if cryptocurrency apps and Exchanges consume much of a data since I only login, perform some quick transactions and logout, unless for those that do forex and serious trading where they have to be online constantly and at every minute.
And it is such a shame that I haven't had a PC before in order to determine its data consumption rate, I should find that in some other people's blog.
The amount of data suscription you can afford should determine the kind of mobile you should purchase

Moving on to the network providers charges

The three major active network in the country here with the corresponding charges are seen here

MTN Data plans and Suscriptions

Airtel

Globacom

There was a time when there was extreme differences in their prices and MTN Data suscription seemed to be the cheapest but people still preferred the expensive Subs because they offer better network strength.
It is not about buying cheap data but about what the data can be used to do. Now the prices seems similar.

Having these amount I still prefer to use the SME data package plans in which I can purchase 1g of date for $0.3cents/300 (we have SME data merchants across country who sell such data) the duration for this is meant for it to last for 1month but we all know that it won't last up to that time, hence one can purchase at least 15g for $5.54/4500 which is roughly the amount of data I make use of monthly.

In order to reduce this amount further I still found some data promo packages on the Airtel network where I can purchase 1g of data for $0.25cents/N200. This 1g last me for about 48hrs hence I renew this suscription 3X in a week and end up using about 3g data in a week for just $0.74/N600 translating to roughly 15g for $3.69/N3000

Note that aside blogging on hive and a little of facebook streaming I do not engage in activities that consume alot of data plans. Watching videos on YouTube is out of this even though there are alot of sewing tutorial and so much one can learn from here. One has to be better prepared to purchase more data if we wish to learn anything from the internet.

Conclusions

Tips for Saving data on the phones has been mentioned in between the lines.

  • Using a mobile phone with a lesser generation wireless, 2g,3g,4g phones increase data consumption in that order as well as the network of either 2,3 or,4g. The 5g network router is available in the country now, this determines this network speed and increasing network speed equals higher data consumption rate.
Some network speed can consume 1mb of data per Minute, meaning that you spend 100mb in 10minites and this

A 1g phone with 1g network can only consume about 10mb in hrs meaning that the speed is slow and so is the data consumption rate and quality of accessing clear images on the internet.

  • Purchasing SME data

  • Only stream sights that are useful and relevant.

Wifi Hotspots

Wifi hotspot aren't available in the country unless in companies that chose to offer their staff such services. While been an undergraduate in school I have enjoyed the benefits of bandwidth but this was calculated and added to our school fees, it is not free.

Internet Cafe

This was common in the past and people paid certain amounts to browse for an hour and stuffs like that, my memories of this are long forgotten 😂

This is my entry for this week's contest by @terganftp , I will like to invite @johnny023 , @ayomiku @vickoly to participate in the contest

I also used to frequent internet cafes back in days too, interesting times it was as one would feel like they're racing against time. I think it's always a good idea to go with a good internet speed with affordable rates.

Interestingly, iphone users mostly lament on data usage and I for one, perhaps because of perceived complexity of that phone do not see myself owning or using it.

You're right. Data usage is phone dependent.

Mifi's are gradually coming onboard but seems their subscriptions are almost same unless there are routers with unlimited monthly subscription.

I believe here in Nigeria, the telecommunications are exploiting citizens, knowing fully well we hardly do without data subscriptions

When you say, data usage is dependent on the phone, you're correct but there's a downside to using those kinds of devices. They can be very sluggish.
And like I mentioned in my post on this topic, it could be that so many automatic updates are running in the background of the phone that's why it uses so much data.

I used to suffer these data issues until I made adjustments on my phone. Maybe you should refer to that post and try out the tips I have. You may find them helpful.

I have set my phones....no background activities and also I am on data saver as well.
I totally understand.
And am glad that you did reset yours

Thanks for posting. I don't 2g/3g/4g/5g increases the amount of data you use but it certainly does increase the speed at which you can go through your data. As for iPhones and Samsung phones using more data again I don't think its the phone but the video's and images. If you take a 50MP image vs a 2MP image one uses a LOT more data and will cost you more money to upload to HIVE. If you take a 2mp image on a 50mp phone it will still look fine once uploaded and be way way less data used.

The same thing goes for watching youtube video's .

Just for fun I took a Youtube video and played it back at 2 different resolutions

Notice the 25481kbps -- 1GB used in only 5 minutes

Notice the 9700kbps --15min for the same 1GB

Then there are background apps constantly trying to update and use up your data so make sure you turn those off. Turn on data limit modes and so forth. Lots of ways to save a little data here and there.

I am curious though. If I was in Nigeria I'd be looking at this airtel cellular plan

It works out to about N100 / GB of Data and the data is valid for a year. About half what you were saying you were paying for a GB of Data.

As for Internet Cafe... I was looking and Smile cellular offers unlimited Internet for N12,000/month. It just gets really slow (512kbps) after a certain amount. Still if its unlimited it could be offered in a place of business or a HIVE clubhouse so people could check their email or make a post (without pictures), or check their pings etc. I think it would be useful to be able to offer a "free" albeit limited service.

Any thoughts?

(and thanks again for posting, your 150 GLD should be off shortly)
