Fruit and Medicinal plants planted in neighborhood garden for herbal remedies
Hello Hive
Yesterday I took a final tour in a neighborhood garden learning about some of the food and medicinal plants they have planted in the garden
My gardener neighbor took his time yesterday to explain to me further about why he had planted some of the fruits and medicinal plants we have seen around his house premises.
Lemon grass is one of those items he has held with so much regard saying that over the years it has been constantly used by his family for the treatment of feverish condition and typhoid.
Here is lemon 🍋 grass and some of the plants we couldn't identify. The grandma of the house has planted those and has now become too old to come around and tell us some of the use of these plants. Passing down both Culture and some of these knowledge will be beneficial for our generation .
Another thing that caught my eyes were this wool tree , I have never seen a wool tree before
Cotton wool tree aren't just cultivated to produce cotton fibre for cloths. The stems, roots and leaves of the plant is used as herbal remedies in treating intestinal disturbance like diarrhea and nausea.
I have often used lime to in treating nausea, just two spoons of the lime juice is enough to keep nausea and vomiting at bay hence lime and lemon weren't also missing in the garden together with it's other multi functions.
Pawpaw is the easiest of fruits to grow and under 3years you will have this kind of fruit available on the tree for harvest. This is one of the richest home garden I have seen around the neighborhood.
Most community members here visit the compound to harvest these plants for their herbal needs.
The rains has fully stopped hence my gardening plans commences tomorrow, I will be going out to shop for a hoe and cutlass since the one available in the house is damaged.
Having met this garden, some of the medicinal herbs will also be harvested and brought to my garden as well.
May I know how lemon grass helps in fever or typhoid? We also have it in the garden.
We just wash the leaves and boil in clean water. Most time we boil it with other herbs roots and leaves like the Neem tree leaves.
Great to be able to have multiple uses of fruits, vegetables and plants. Growing for herbal uses I bet is so much affordable.
Affordable, it's not for sale.
Everyone around here have access to it for free.
I love houses that always has a garden of helpful plants. It's a good thing you are harvesting some plants to your garden, they will grow well in your garden too.
Exactly, I can't wait to have a flourishing garden here.
