Complete loss of our Beans farms as Normadic Cattle rearers have feed on all the planted beans

Hello Hive

This is one of the reasons I have always admonished that cattle rearers should be giving adequate knowledge of the importance of peaceful co-existence between themselves and farmers. How can a well meaning human being take their animals into another man's farm to feed on their hard labour.

We have laboured to plant this beans on about 70plots of land just like we did last year where we were able to harvest 3bags of beans, but this year there will be no beans harvest as we have lost everything.
The cattle rearers around here are inhuman and while they wish to grow their cattle to make profit, they often forget that farmers also need their crops to flourish well. Everyone to his own business.

We the farmers are really considerate leaving the remains of our harvest and debri for this animals to feed on, countless times we plead with this cattle rearers to exercise patience for our harvest to be completed before they come grazing. Most of the cattle rearers live in the bush and have abundant grasses to feed their animals during the green and rainy days but with dry seasons like this they have to come grazing if ever they will have enough food .

Earlier I have blogged about how a portion of the beans was infected and we have bought the chemical insecticide we need to see if that portion of the beans can be rescued but now everything is gone.

Yesterday I have equally gone visiting to the farms and have noticed how the cattle rearers are now advancing towards our rice farms. The people always place pressure on us as we are often in a race to finish up the labour of harvest so that they won't feed on our crops.

Most times this cattle rearers are armed and comes with weapon whenever the go grading about and this is a challenge for farmers because no one is able to stand and confront them even if you find them grazing in your field.

And like I said earlier preparations are on for rice harvest and tomorrow we would begin cutting the portions of the dried grain.

On my way home I still find this domestic goat feeding on someone's rice farm. This is unfair and not nice at all, after a farmer has laboured to grow his crops then another releases his animals to go feed on them.
It's just sad and unfortunate.

This is wickedness. That's what they did to my maize and guinea corn farm which made me to consider stopping crop farming. A large portion of my farm were destroyed by their cattles.

This is so so bad!!!! Wrong on all sides!!

Do you stay in the North?

I am so sorry my !lady, I can feel your pain. Watching your hard labour get ruined is so painful.

Are there no chemicals that can repel the cattles and not be harmful to your farm produces?

Here in America you are actually responsible for damages if you're unable to control your animals and they destroy a farmer's crop.

In fact there should be some kind of restitution made by the owners of the animals.

I can see why the ranchers have to be armed as this kind of behavior would more than likely result in them catching a beating or being murdered. Especially if they don't control where they have their animals.

Personally I'd go up to the owner of them cattle and demand restitution. You might end up getting a few to compensate you for your loss.

Well sure would be an issue if they ended up having their own issues. Too bad you can't get barbed wire for fencing!

What a terrible situation, is there no way to stop it? Although if they are armed I don't think you can talk to people like that, it is simply a very selfish act that these people carry out.

One of the challenges Farmers have in Nigeria are these cattle rearers and the funniest thing is that they are mostly Fulani going from places to places grazing and have their Cow and cattle feed and destroy farmers plants. That has caused lot of insecurities in most communities in Nigeria most especially in states like Kwara,Kogi and Benue.

You didn't lie about these cattle rearers coming to people's farm to graze fully armed with AK-47,knife, Axe or sharp Cutlass. The best thing to do to them is to plead with them but still will turn deaf ears.

It's a pity because that's a total waste of time and effort. Someone labour gone to waste. Abah! That's not nice. Better you report them to the nearby authority or their head.
