You Mean: You And Your Wife Do Fight?

There was a discussion and the subject of the discussion was about a couple who always quarrel. I lent my voice and said that even my wife does fight me many times. The guys were shocked. Probably because they thought that a clergy couldn't have the experience of conflict at home.

Not A Combat Field

Our homes are not combat fields nor boxing ring. We should never imagine lifting up our hands as men to fight our wives or hailing insults on our husbands as women. The argument in this discussion is not about physical violence.

Physical violence is absolutely unlawful (and we must be law abiding). Some men think that being able to beat and abuse their wives is a show of supremacy or proof of manhood. Well, that is insane reasoning. On the other hand, there are women who think that standing up against the husband’s opinion always is what makes them real women. All that is wrong. As far as marriage is concerned, physical violence is out of it completely.

We MUST Argue

I use the word “MUST” because argument is part of the ingredients for a strong relationship. We have been taught in schools that conflict is significant in building strong and lasting relationships. Life is lived by challenges. Each progress made is a proof of overcoming a challenge. In a marital relationship, we must be prepared for conflicts and disagreements. If there are no conflicts between two people in a relationship then there is no relationship between them. If a couple live together without disagreeing and arguing over some issues, then they are just existing as separate entities.

Let’s Always Look For A Center To Hold

The beauty of two becoming one is that they always arrived at a center to hold (and things could not fall apart)

When we disagree, let’s look for a common ground to land. Let's shave our differences and look out for a center we can hold for unity, peace and progress.
