Wrongly Formulated And Abandoned

I came to the city of Ilorin in Kwara State, Nigeria in the year 2012. Precisely, I relocated to Ilorin on the 13th of May, 2012. I had visited the city twice before then. But the time I got to the city to reside was that date.

In the heart of Ilorin city, there is this popular roundabout junction known as Gerin Alimi. Besides this roundabout is a huge building. This building had been there for years.

Had Never Been Put To Use

The location of the building makes it very desirable for both public and private parastatals. There is no reasonable reason one could decode from the mystery surrounding this building. Such structures are usually sought after to use for office space. But this magnificent structure, strategically located in such a place like that, had never been used before.

Monumental Irony

I have not done any research on this structure; I am not intending to do any. I have no idea who built it nor why it had been abandoned. The intended glory of the edifice has been overtaken with reproach. Those related to the structure will have several questions and explanations to make. There will be scorning, accusations, blackmailing and name callings. Just one structure has branded the lineage ill-fated. What a Monumental Irony.

The joy of the owner is not fulfill because what was supposed to be put to use has been abandoned. I don't know from whose side the error came from but the structure had failed in its purpose. It has become an abandoned structure in the heart of the city.

What Lessons

There are several lessons to learn from the great teacher which has been standing for years and which might still stand for generations to come. Its presence voices out loudly to everyone who comes in contact with it. What lessons can we learn:

• If it is not rightly formulated, it shall be abandoned someday.

When you do not take the pain to formulate it rightly from the beginning, your labour might become wasted. The resources put into it might become a total loss at the end. So, let the process be gotten right from the beginning.

Many students do not bear the pains to get their education right. They are lazying around, partying and spending time on the things that are not needed. When you don't get it right from the foundation, you might suffer rejection.

A lot of people need money but are not willing to take the discipline, learn the right skills for money to come. In this generation, there are several scammers and dubious schemes. All these are the products of wrong processing. Get the process right then the product will be accepted.

• We All Share In The Shame

It wouldn't have taken too long for the entire city to identify the family who owns this structure if it were to belong to someone. I’m assuming that it's a government property.

What would have been the fate of the family connected to this structure? There would have been blackmailed.

That is how it is when we carry defects. When there is an altitudinal defect, you make people point accusing fingers at your home. Why we must watch for our errors and correct them on time is because all those who are connected to us might be gotten on the web of our misdeeds.

• No One Cares

Our politicians always told us that they are in office for our service. But is it really true? Are they actually there to serve us? Is it truly our interest that they are defending? Do they actually care about the development of states and the nation?

If this property were to belong to someone, it would have been repaired and put to use since. There wouldn't have been any structural defect which the owner wouldn't have sorted out years back. Why is it difficult for those in power to look into how this structure could be mended and put to use.

The attitude of caring less when it comes to government properties, is killing the development of our nations (especially the African countries). Consider this: many government employed teachers and school administrators have their own schools. When you get to their schools, it's always active and vibrant. But when we get to the government schools, most of them the teachers are not in classrooms. The students are left to roam the streets without anyone caring. Why are we having this wrong attitude of allowing government properties and facilities to rot?

There could be lessons you could learn also from the sight of this abandoned property. Could there be a generation that will preserve what we collectively own as a people? Will the upcoming generation of political office holders repair the ruins of our nations and rebuild the broken walls.
Let's think good. Let’s progress. Let's build lasting, trusted systems and structures. Let us do away with wrong formulation and abandonment.
