Newsletter Token Proposal

One of the favorite things I like about HIVE is that “Lifestyle Blogging” still pays off. On web 2, if you want to make money blogging, you must have a niche topic, an audience, and a way to monetize. Here on Web 3, you can simply be yourself on the blockchain, and something will pay.

**Hobby Writing is Still a Thing Here **

I recognize that “pay” is a relative term, as it's hard to find someone on the blockchain who lives off of HIVE. Is it really “payment” when you can’t easily cash it out? Being that I am from California, and flipping burgers will earn you at least $20 USD per hour, I would say it's nearly impossible to make a livable income here. However I’ve written plenty of articles on how even though HIVE is not paying my wages, it's funding my retirement.

SPI Getting Rich Slow since 2019

“Getting rich slow” is a movement I have been a part of for about ½ a decade now, and it's paying off. In fact, I have a a dolphins worth of HIVE wrapped up into SPI and most of it was earned with blogging.

I’m no longer a daily blogger, four kids and a full time job monopolizes most of my time, but I still spend plenty of time here as an investor. Recently SPI put out a post that pretty much described why I don’t write on a daily basis. This post got me thinking, why don’t I have my own investment token?

I'm Ready for my own Investment token

I know that you can build a foundation in crypto with your writing, now that I have my foundation, buying and selling HIVE Engine tokens, and investing in other projects is more lucrative and less time consuming, but how did I get to that point? Writing and curating.

Best of all, I know how to replicate it

The following is my idea for my very own investment token. It puts together some ideas that i think are lucrative.

  1. Building an outside the blockchain audience. People who are new to the blockchain should be encouraged to show us what they had for breakfast, post their selfies, and hang around on threads. Those of us who are investors should be encouraged to bring those people to the blockchain

  2. ** Pay people for reading and commenting** while bringing eyeballs to our site.

  3. Share my vast knowledge. I have gray hair now, its time to flaunt it! have it! I’ve written great articles on how investing an hour here and there has massed me some income, why not share the how to people outside of HIVE? The strategies I implemented would not have worked in the “real” (outside of crypto) and the investments I made would have never survived at a traditional bank. I’m so proud of my SPI account and I’m so proud of the income tokens I have amassed. Why not help others replicate that?

  4. Share my losses. Blogtoken? Marlians? DHedge? Drugwars? I sank income into these and lost. Why is that OK? Well, because I learned, and because I knew small tricks like “Don’t invest more than you are willing or able to lose.” This includes time.

  5. Revive my old posts. I believe in evergreen content and I wrote bunches of it in the past, why not update it and share it?

** That's fine and dandy, but how will this make money?**

We need to have investors, people who are willing to put their money into helping me (finally get this newsletter off the ground). Advertisers (those who are wanting to pay to have me share their articles and promotions to my subscribers), and finally readers, those who want to hear what I have to say.

The Investors

The investors will buy my token HODL it, and wait for the account to grow to make some income.

The Advertisers

Advertisers will pay to share their work/wares to the readers.

The Subscribers

The subscribers will be the newsletter readers who are interested in what I have to say.

Sounds great but HOW?

How will I find my investors? Well, me. I am willing to invest in myself and treat this like a business, I have enough HIVE power delegated to other projects, why not delegate this HIVE power to myself. I will share what I am doing on HIVE and those who want to join me, can.

How will I find my advertisers? Well, again, me, and all my blockchain friends (are you guys still there?) I’m sure that once I build a newsletter that has 200 readers, anyone who wants to get some of that LEO Ad action (I trust you LEO team, I believe in you!) will want to have a willing audience to share their work with.

How will I find subscribers? Pinterest. I’ve already built a presence there and have reached over 1,000,000 monthly views on my “stuff”. I'm ready to put it to use (I would have to revamp it for this project, but I have the know how) Plus I’ve build many successful newsletters in the past when i was a freelance writer who was helping people build up their brand. Now its my turn to do it for myself.

How will the tokenomics work?

I’m thinking of starting the account with a 500 HIVE delegation from myself, and putting 500 coins out for circulation. As the coins are sold, I will undelegate (or keep the delegation to show support, I haven't decided) the point is that the account will always have at least 500 HIVE worth of power to work with and the tokens will always be backed by that HIVE POWER. That way, if I ever get tired of writing newsletters, then I’ll simply liquidate the account - and give people their money back.

How will the account make an income for investors?

#1

Each newsletter I write will live on the blockchain and therefore create an income. Readers will be encouraged to come to the site and engage. I know of plenty of ways to help those who don’t have an account get one, and I also have a bunch of account creation tokens to create them myself. Also, I have over 75,000 NEOXIAN tokens and last I heard you can buy a new account for just 1500NEO - plenty. As payouts for the newsletter occur, the account will naturally build itself up with HIVE Power and HBD.

Through payouts I’m thinking of building up the HBD account (20% income, yaaas) buying some EDS tokens (if they aren’t available I’m sure the spinvest team will come up with something better) Getting happy with the LOLZ crew who seem to have a good plan on how to keep growing, and check in on how ALIVE TRIBE and INDEX tokens are doing healthwise. Projects seem to come and go, so constant research will be a part of my job.

At this point, I am not interested in doing “off chain” investments.

Token holders will own a portion of these investments. I’m not sure of the payouts yet… That's why I'm writing about it and not quite yet building it

Advertisers will basically pay to have their wares promoted to my subscribers. This income will initially be used to build up the account, but will eventually be used to “pay” investors. I’m planning on building a large newsletter following, and advertisers LOVE selling to niche markets. Money from advertisement will be shared with investors.

What's in it for the readers?

Aside from the immense knowledge to be gained from my words, The Readers will be rewarded with upvotes. This will also build HIVE Power through curation. I also have enough HIVE POWER in my @metzli account to share upvotes, and I have enough tipping tokens to share without stealing from myself.

What’s in it for me?

I, of course will be paying myself to do this work. I’ve seen plenty of project burn themselves out by being built from individuals who don’t pay themselves enough to do the work. I’m thinking I get to keep 25% off all the profits, although I may just keep 15% and use the other 10% to pay “HIVE bounties” to those who are willing to do STUFF to build the account (make graphics, share on X, thread, etc). Nobody wants to work for free, lets see if this can create enough income to share the wealth.

What do you think?

Great ideas @meztli, hopefully we could encourage new-comers to engage into the ecosystem, it is not easy because at the beginning is to slow and sometimes frustrating to see no one votes on your postings... it takes years!
I am also more as investor than blogger. One is pushing the other, ha ha.
The SPI project sounds interesting, I will take a look.
Have a great day!

SPI is great because they put out lots of reports showing what works and what doesn't. Its a great learning tool - and they make it so you can replicate what they do.

I know its frustrating to get started, which is part of why I want to avoid. I'm also targeting a specific group of people (millennial women from California who love writing but never gave themselves the opportunity) of course, all are welcome - but that's the net I'm casting.

I'm working with he old Steemitmamas crew to see if we can use that old discord server.

I was just thinking about steemitmamas! I think that's where I first came across your posts, you were writing about the pros and cons of different vote buying strategies. I know that is considered the bad old days now, but at the time it was a reality and interesting to read your process.

In addition to your experience here, you are appealing to a group that often find it hard to create an income (and even harder, wealth) that fits with being a mum. And one of your greatest assets in terms of adoption is that women will see someone (you) "just like me" and that is very powerful.

Women are a huge untapped audience for Hive. The blockchain industry in London has about 19% women, I'm guessing Hive is similar. Given that women in families make 64% of the purchasing decisions including finance and holidays, bringing more women to Hive makes great sense.

It took years, and its still a work in progress, but I can see how the investment in time I made back then is still growing now.

The income growing is one thing, but the confidence I gained has been more than invaluable - blogging here on the blockchain and being a part of a group like Steemitmamas really made me be able to go out and get some freelancing gigs. When it was time to get that J.O.B I was able to negotiate a better salary, because I knew how much I could make on my own, at home.
