From Appetizers to Fireworks: A Delightful Dining Experience at `Heere aan de Maas´.

I love to explore new restaurants. It's not affordable to do it often, like every week. So, I wait for any special occasion.

I got an opportunity to celebrate my mother's 75th birthday last Friday. My family gathered at the restaurant in Roermond.

"Heere aan de Maas" is the restaurant name I want to tell you all about.

But this restaurant needs some explanation. Simply showing you the dishes doesn't cut it.

Its concept is quite different

A friendly waitress walked us to our table and explained how everything worked.

At first, we needed to scan the QR code next to our table number.

Then, a website popped up on your telephone screen.

And the rest showed itself.

Several categories were on your screen, making selecting your desired dish easier.

Each of these meals was a mini version of themselves. That way, you can enjoy numerous dishes. You are not restricted to 1 starter, one main course, or one dessert.

It's ideal because I usually can't choose when everything looks so delicious.

On the app/website, you can choose which kind of meal you want. That's either soup, fish, meat, vegetarian, or a side dish.

Above, you can see an example of the soups and meat dishes.

But I will no longer bore you with these dull images. Let's get to the yummy part of the evening. And show you what I all had for dinner. I warn you, it's a lot, but luckily, all tiny portions.

To begin with, I had some starters.

**Chicken pot pie**: Three small puff pastry pots were topped with delicious chicken pie.

**Carpaccio** with Grana Padano (cheese), truffle mayonnaise, balsamic, and some salad. This appetizer always remains my favorite.

After two meat starters, I ordered two fish starters.

**Vitello Tonnato**: Tuna salad, veal meat, croutons, and caper apple. I always enjoy this recipe, but it was to my liking today. The veal was sliced too thick, the tuna salad needed smoother, and even the taste needed to be slightly off.

But dinner was starting, and there were many more excellent dishes.

**Squid rings** with garlic mayonnaise.

Well, that was a dish I could eat over and over. I could taste that the squid rings were fresh. Otherwise, the texture would have been very rubbery.

(In the back are some side dishes. Fries and salad)

After four starters, it was time for some main courses.

There were so many choices to pick from, but I decided to start again with two meat dishes.

After thoroughly examining the menu, I chose two classic dishes.

First the spare ribs in soy sauce.

And you know it’s properly cooked when the meat comes away from the bone with a slight tug.

Also the texture was like a good prepared steak, heavenly.

And the second dish was a **mini angus burger** with caramelised onions, aioli and lettuce: nom, nom, nom. The sweetness of the onions and the juice dripping out of the burger made this a mouthwatering small snack.

You must be stuffed, right? Well no. All the dishes have the perfect small size to order a couple more main courses.

Again, I chose two fish dishes. To keep it varied but mainly because I like fish and meat.

My eye fell upon **prawns** in garlic-pernod sauce and chives.

The photo says it all. Delicious dish.

Just one last main course, and then I will slowly end this delicious dinner.

Prawn tartare with ras el hanout, puffed garlic mayonnaise, and fennel. An explosion of all kinds of tastes, wow!

The sweet tooth in me jumped in the air of joy because we finally had arrived at the end course, desserts.

I was able to restrain myself and keep it at 3.

In the front: Profiterole, dipped in white chocolate with cassis mousse
Rear left: Chocolate mousse
Rear right: A brownie with mocha cream

The only one that could have been more disappointing was the chocolate mousse.
I like it firm and a little sticky. But this one was more of a pudding.

It was a tie between the classic brownie with a tasteful twist on top. And the Profiterole.

It would be my mother's if I had to pick a dessert as a winner.

She was surprised at the end with a beautiful fireworks display to celebrate her birthday. We sang 'Happy Birthday' to her and ended it memorably.

Do I recommend going to "Heere aan de Maas"?

Yes, I do.

I like their innovative idea of ordering small dishes through a QR code.

You can try so many different kinds of cuisine.
I love the food; it is also delicious & the staff is so friendly and skilled.

I recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a special occasion meal.

This is so good but sometimes I just wish I could do most things and not go to any restaurants at all
