Birds on a snowy Wisconsin morning

avatar
(Edited)

This week's topic for @nelinoeva 's SMaP contest in the Feathered Friends Community is Birds and Twigs

I took this photo yesterday of these Mourning Doves out in the snow only to realize later that twigs had ruined the shot. It does happen often.

Too bad. It could have been a nice shot, but now will get deleted, like so many bird photos do when Twigs are in the way

Blue Jay on a snowy morning

Northern Flicker on the suet feeder. He is unhappy this morning because the feeder is empty. He keeps coming back to check, but because the snow is so deep I can't get my backdoor open to get out there. He will have to wait until I can get someone to come around to shovel off the deck.

The dark-eyed junco is sometimes known as the "snowbird." It is found in Wisconsin in the colder months, but not in the summer.

This House Finch is small but stands out amidst the snowy backyard landscape.

This is the biggest snowfall we have had in a couple years. It's pretty, for those of us who don't have to go out in it!

Fun shots! I would call them all snow birds today 🙂 Looks like you got all the snow they promised. We just got more scary winds. Lots of trees down and power outages but we have been lucky this round ✌

I'm guessing we have about 2 ft. on the ground. Now to survive the below 0 temps. So glad they buried our power lines a few years ago. I do not miss those days of losing power every time a tree branch fell.

It's hard to see in this photo, but the male house finches are a lovely red color. They stay here year round.

They stay here all winter, when other birds fly south, so they must not mind the cold!

Awwwww! Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed these photos! It's too cold to go outside, so I took all of these from inside the house.

Those are some great shots! Poor bird keeps looking for food, if you can't get out there he'll just have to wait!
