Backyard squirrels

avatar
(Edited)

This is the time of year that Eastern gray squirrels forage for nuts and seeds, and often bury their food to dig up later. . They play an important role in seed dispersal, when they forget where they buried their nut, and it sprouts and grows into a tree

Here in Wisconsin there are Gray squirrels, Flying squirrels, Fox squirrels, American red squirrels, Thirteen-lined ground squirrels, but the Gray squirrels are the most common in my backyard.

It's easier to see them and take photos now that autumn has arrived and most of the leaves are falling off the trees.

The look on this squirrels face seems to say that he thinks photographers are a rude bunch!

So nice to see where the grey squirrels actually come from and a gentleman by the name of Cecil John Rhodes imported the squirrels here in South Africa in the 1800s.
A very cute post milady.

Here is one in our garden that found an old granadilla where he buried it last season.

I sometimes take out pieces of stale bread or crackers for them, so they often wait around to see if I have tasty handouts!

Great fun post! our squirrels are getting rowdy because we haven't put up our sunflower seed feeder yet lol we have grey and red and chipmunks around the feeder. Not sure about other types that many be out in the woods.

Cute little squirrel munching away on an acorn! They're such cute animals. You got some great shots, definitely easier to see them without all the leaves!

That's great that You have captured these images. Animals don't allow to take pictures mostly. Squirrels are always seems to be more innocent and harmless animal.

There are a lot of red squirrels in my house that are very secretive. I really like this little mammal. It sometimes happens that you find them dead on the side of the roads but this remains quite rare compared to other wild animals. . But in your photos, it looks very big.

I myself go to such beautiful places but whenever I start taking pictures of all these things they run away and the butterflies fly away.

You must sit quietly for sometime to take pictures of birds and wildlife. Or hide!
