The incoming wave of COVID 19 will destroy Australia's economy

We've been quite fortunate in Australia with COVID19 and we've been able to lock down and prevent it from spreading. But with all things the inevitability of an issue is down to time and luck.

Politics plays a big role, if you've been following my blogs you would have read how a class system is starting to ravage the working class by pretending that COVID isn't real and attempting to get people back into the CBD for profits and house prices.

12 months on we would think that our leaders would have learned a thing or two about the virus but they haven't. Political pressure amounts to return the CBD to its precovid state despite the scenes we are seeing across the globe. Australia's vaccination program also fails in comparison to other nations.

The US alone has pretty much vaccinated the Australian population 3x over. In fact I read they vaccinated over 5 million people in one day. With those numbers that would be our two most populated suburbs in two days, yet we struggle to get 20,000 vaccines out in a day.

Not that we can't do it, we have a facility that can make the vaccine but we're not funding it and there are a few reasons.

Mental Health

Untitled design-51.jpg

When the outbreak occured it was a pretty traumatic experience for alot of people and the way humans deal with trauma is different. Some withdraw and lock down, others freeze and get trapped in fear then there is an entire cohort that are that scared that they deny it completely.

These people will often refute data, science, evidence block it out completely and push for normality. The world around them could be crumbling, the sun fading and they are that locked in fear that they have completely blocked it from their minds.

This can be dangerous if they are managers or senior leadership where they have direct line management to staff. Using their positions to put their teams and networks at risk purely because their own mental health issues are not being addressed.

They are not to be blamed though as they need support but their actions can be extremely dangerous. Many in Australia have had their views and opinions substantiated as lockdowns have successfully prevented spread so these people are able to walk freely around and not contract the virus and it reaffirms their position.

Untitled design-50.jpg

Some have even developed God complexes where by viewing the death toll in other countries perceive themselves and Australians as Gods that can't contract the virus or are super immune. Yes, I have heard this.

We're still under strict rules not to attend work places if sick and to wear masks on public transport but many are not adhering to these simple guidelines.

Our success will be our economic ruin

Unfortunately our blissful life that was the envy of the globe is about to hit a stark down turn. As anticipated and advocated winter causes a greater transmission rate and infections have been detected in waste water at a growing rate. This indicates that the virus is re-emerging. Businesses and companies are remaining ignorant of the fact and forcing staff to return. In stead of redeveloping their business model, addressing any short falls and preparing for another out break to mitigate financial loss and failures. They are completely ignoring the virus and pretending it doesn't exist.

It's not as simple as putting profits before people it is far greater and rooted in a person's thoughts in the belief that it won't happen to them.

Billions of dollars of tax payer money was used to prop up business through the first year and we won't have deep enough pockets to do it again. If so we would be locking my generation, my kids and future generations in debt and stuffed inflation rates. But businesses don't care about that, they are not people and exist to provide a service and need. Instead of adopting covid models and redeploying and preparing they are slow to react, an entire year slow.

Batten down the hatches, this incoming wave will damage more than just the health system but the countries economy, purely on the reason that people don't want to deal with their trauma and continue to block it from their minds and put millions at risk and future generations.

I was in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and not many were wearing masks on public transport. You wouldn't even know that covid was around at the casino. It was packed. The contact tracing was in force but people are getting a bit too lax again. We need to be vaccinated before we can feel a lot more comfortable. I hope we don't get another bad outbreak but the govt needs to speed up this rollout.

Yup I agree with you, people are getting too comfortable and it will put the broader community at risk.

Unfortunately, it is the weak and the vulnerable that will suffer.

This is something I've been thinking about too. But short term money trumps long term quality of life every time in every modern society, so I'm not surprised that we didn't take better advantage of what we learned from remote work.

I am however a little more optimistic about vaccinations in Aus. So much of the hate I read is just purely which side of politics people close their eyes and blindly follow.

Yeah we've been slow rolling them out, but we've also been cautious. Something that's not entirely a bad thing, especially when we have a zero death rate month on month.

It's not going to fall to shit overnight, even if we get an outbreak. The states are battle hardened and processes are well and truly in place.

Valid points but we will need to change in order to navigate the future. Even with a vaccine the virus RNA strand means it will mutate each year and there is no known information on what the long term health issues of contracted patients.

I know a few who caught it last year and are still suffering from it. I also know people who got it and nothing happened. It is an odd virus and akin to playing Russian roulette.

India is a focus with its inaction on vaccinating Dalits or even providing basic health care. It is here that we will see new variants emerge.

The danger is that the largest cohort of migration to Australia are people from India. Many holding dual citizenships. Many residing in the western and Northern suburbs of Melbourne. Which, on today's numbers shows that we are detecting COVID in waste water from these areas.

It's going to be a long, cold, winter a head.

This is very bleak, I am hoping you are wrong for your own sake. Very tough times the past few years

I shouldn't be too bleak this isn't the first and won't be the last pandemic. Humans have survived it will probably take 5 years to mutate and become another cold or flu that each year takes people.

Just want to be sure about the long term side effects and health conditions. Oxygen deprivation can be quite significant to out internal organs.

I am hoping the best for the people there. We are also already getting vaccination for covid, eventough it is still a bit slow.
even your country success is a model for some facebook page and account to spread the news that covid is fake, and all are lies. There was video showing Australian already attending concert without mask, and people can walk around freely. What they don't show is the strict lockdown measure taken by your government when the covid starts spreading.
I do hope that the New Indian type Corona Virus won't spread out, just bone chilling to read the news about them

Yup, some people just want to see the world burn unfortunately. We did enjoy a wonderful COVID free summer but that was normal as other countries cases reduced in Summer and the virus wasn't able to spread as well as it does in Winter.

Hope it won't get crazy like it has in India. I'm seeing complacency hit other success stories like Singapore and Hong Kong a bit too.

Yup, this wave will be alot different caused by a false sense of security that we can defeat the virus and people in a hurry to get back to precovid life.
