Christmas in Australia

Christmas in Australia

Hello Motherhood I trust you have all been safe and well as we move closer to Christmas only 2 more sleeps until Santa gets here. Although, I told my kids early on that Santa isn't real.

My wife and mother inlaw were upset at that many years ago because they thought I was ruining Christmas and being a bit of a Grinch. Apparently making kids think that some old fat dude breaking into your house to give gifts is a good lie to give kids.

Ive never been a fan because it sets kids up to fail, you can still have a magical Christmas with Santa and my kids still like to see Santa but I preferred them knowing the truth. Its a bit unfair if kids think Santa is real and the families that can't afford expensive presents means kids believe their not liked by Santa.

I rather them know the truth and know that its peoples mums and dads using their hard earned cash to get them gifts. I've also found my kids appreciate it more that way. Christmas is still just as fun and all the Christmas films are still loved.

Just like everything else, just because you know its not real doesn't mean you don't play a long in the magic.

Six years later and it appears the decision was a good one because my kid is quite conscious in what she asks for for Christmas and knows that we are buying the gifts. This means I dont get lists with 9999999 unattainable things.

My wife also now agrees 6 years later given that times are tough currently and our daughter is quite grateful with her wish lists and says thank you for putting on a great Christmas.

Of course we have a tree with wrapped presents and we won't tell the kids which gifts we got them and we throw in a few extra ones. Like little bloke has know idea he is getting his first bike this year and i cant wait to see his face!

One thing that is super awesome here in Aus is the Christmas Spirit and the effort people put into decorating their homes. Because it is summer in Australia the weather is perfect for out door activities and one of those annual traditions is people decorating their homes and us exploring the great set ups.

Tonight we're out and about checking out the awesome work many of our neighbours are putting into decorating their houses.

We're also seeing Halloween expand in Australia and it is also becoming a great event to take the kids out. Although we put a few decorations up for each event i do one day want to do my own big set up.

But we'll have to wait a few years because it costs a fair bit and the cost of electricity in Australia is rapidly going up.

Anyway everyone I hope youre having a wonderful Christmas and getting ready for a new year
