It Was A Weekend To Remember |- Hive Naija Weekly Prompt | Edition 42

Weekends offer us a break from our working days. The joy I feel once I notice it's Friday brings the realization of why TGIF is coined out. Getting that free time to enjoy with loved ones and do whatever we want without clouding our minds makes weekends days of anticipation.

For me, I enjoy the quality time I get to spend with those who mean the world to me, the chance to engage in whatever I want, and other indoor and outdoor activities. I love doing all my dishes any day on the weekend, using the rest for other entertainment purposes.

One of my weekends that I could really remember, I had the best fun and would tag the sweetest was our society end-of-the-year get-together. It was a two-day event. As a society, we had a journey through the year together, attending meetings, occasions, and other church activities, and there was a need for us to round off the year by cooling off.

We all agreed on using one of the well-known open spaces around the Uyo Metropolis. One thing I love about this open space is the serenity with lots of shades. It's a place to spend quality time with loved ones.

It was December 2022, around 2pm on Saturday afternoon with different packages that would make our sitting fun and entertaining. The fun started in the mini-bus as our voices filled the air. When we arrived at the Green Field, everyone began bringing out what we had brought to make the day exciting. The ground was so inviting, and my eyes couldn't believe how far we could go in making the day exciting.

Some came with coolers of food, fruits, and all kinds of snacks. The aroma from the cooler of rice could make anyone wish for a taste. Apart from the lots of food to keep our tummies happy, the environment was inviting as we had lots of people attracted to our space. We came with a music box, hired games, and this gave us the privilege to carry out dancing and gaming competitions. The most engaging was the dancing competition as so many of us couldn't dance. The air was filled with so much laughter.

I have never felt such a bonding experience in my entire life until that day. As we sat having fun and relaxing, it felt so good to surround oneself with people who bring nothing but joy and good memories to one's heart. As we sat on the mat enjoying everything we were with, the only thing that mattered to us was the togetherness and joy we felt among us.

Around 5 pm, we started packing our stuff. We all wished time could be backdated for us to remain there and the fun to be unending. With the full knowledge that nothing lasts forever, we rounded off with an exchange of gifts. Not everyone made it to get a gift home as the gift was only for those who came with one.

The celebration continued on Sunday after our Thanksgiving Mass. We gathered again as that day was our society president's birthday. He provided us with free chicken pepper soup and rice with soft drinks. The two days were proof that we can find happiness in whatever way we want to.

The togetherness with people I call family and friends remains a memory that can't depart from my heart. I didn't want the experience to end, but I remain grateful for being part of the event, the good times, and the shared memories.
