Empowering actions are those things we or others do that make us feel good and confident about ourselves due to our achievements or the impact we have made. These actions, whether big or small, stand out because of the positive effect they have on us. They can be done by us or by others. For instance, I have a good friend who loves empowering other ladies in businesses. Helping others to grow in any little way we can is an empowering action.

Apart from supporting others, empowering actions can also be shown through our generosity to others. Being generous to others can be a way of empowering them to do great things. A sense of generosity means so much to people and it helps make the world a better place.

For a family business to grow as it should, the family has to work as a team. When I was growing up, my family had a shop where we sold foodstuffs wholesale, mainly focusing on beans. It was a business that needed more hands to thrive, and luckily, we had enough family members to help out. As a family, we all had a part to play, and we worked together with a common goal in mind.

This business had been running for years, and when my dad passed away, we took over the reins. Since he left the business for us and we didn't know much about it, we felt that by everyone being present, we could bring in ideas that could help us grow the business to what we wanted it to be.

That decision turned out to be one of the best we ever made. Working together opened us up to business experience and marketing skills. For any business to grow, there must be a well-drafted plan, outlining the goals to be achieved. Since our business involved daily selling, we always set targets to hit a particular threshold on a daily basis. To achieve that, we worked tirelessly together, bringing in ideas and suggestions on how to stand out and do what others weren't doing.

Running an open business would always attract envy from competitors. I remember when our competitors accused us of using charm to attract customers.

Despite whatever rumors we heard, we continued to strive, employing all the strategies we knew. We were interested in building a future for all of us and making a difference. As a family, we worked in unison, making impacts in the lives of others selling the same things as us. When others saw we were doing well because of our number, some went and employed salespersons too. Building a family business requires unity, open-mindedness, and Communication.

Communication is vital in any business, making ideas open and everyone airing out his or her challenges to find solutions from others goes a long way in building a successful family business.

Empowering actions in a family business can come from within the family or externally. Support can come from family members and people outside of the family who appreciate what you are doing and are willing to lend a helping hand to see you grow.

After many years of successful business operations, my elder brother who was the manager got married, and there was a shift in the business operations. Resources were shared, and he started running the business with his new family while we found a different path with our own resources. However, it wasn't something entirely different from business; this time, it was an individual-based endeavor.
