Short story about Törzburg - Bran Castle and the well known myth of Count Dracula
How many of you haven't heard about Dracula and Bran Castle, which actually has its german name, as "Törzburg" ... ?
This very emblematic touristic site for the cultural treasure of Romania is a fortress, situated on the Transylvanian side of the historical border with Valahia (Wallachia)
Maybe the Bran Castle/Torzburg and name of Dracula would be one of the most important reference through which every person who has never been before to Romania would associate instinctivly these two historical elements to this awesome country
I know that you've seen already so many photos with this castle already, all arround the internet, but i guess not so many have ever visited this wonderful touristic site.
That's why i won't post a photo with the castle :-)
I'll post in this episode just a few photos from the inside section of the castle ... which you would like to see ...
The character Dracula, who also bears the name of the novel written at the end of the 19th century by the famous irishman Bram Stoker, is a Transylvanian count, the master of Bran astle built on this high cliff, from where he guards the river valley meandering through the whole Principality of Transylvania.
In reality, i can say it's an awesome fiction.
As some of you know already, Romania has some amazing sites, regarding nature, villages from country sides and especially the traditional customs.
The woods are sublime ... with their amazing springs ...
Regarding this awesome fiction story about Dracula and his castle is something interesting to mentioned.
It is the fact that, Bram Stoker has never visited Romania before he wrote his book.
In his description of Dracula's imaginary castle, he starts from a presentation of Bran Castle that was available in late 19th century in England.
The castle looks like this inside:
The rooms are kept in a very good state and you can find old furniture that can bring back memories, for some who were living in those periods of time, and now, they reincarnated :)
Pictures, related to Dracula, actually are still available on some old stamps and these can be found only on some very devoted stamps collectors.
Here is one stamp of my collection:
The character within the old stamp it represents actually the very famous and fearful ruler, under his name of Vlad Tepes, which was also known as Vlad Dracul ( the Impaler)
He was indeed one of the most fearful rulers from the Wallachian region, expecially because he used to punish and execute all the thieves by piercing their bodies with a sharp spike ...
On his age of ruling the Walachian Principality there were no incidents on the streets.
They've said that you could leave your little bag with golden coins on the streets and no one would touch it, because of the sinister punishment that could happen'to them through Vlad Tepes protocol of piercing their bodies with those sharp spikes ...
Now, let's return to the awesome Bran castle ...
Inside of this castle you can find so many chambers ( only those who are allowed to be seen by the visitors) and there can be seen awesome clothing that famous for that historical period ...
Also there can be found, all kind of ancient weapons, in matter of knifes from that specific historical time and you can see the major influence of the Ottoman Empire:
During that period, Wallachia had a tense history and you should know as well, that after his fall, Vlad Tepes first settled in Edirne, which, historically speaking, was known as Adrianople and served as the third capital city of the Ottoman Empire from 1369 to 1453.
It would be a very long blog, if i should write an entire story about the whole history of Wallachia, especially under the governance of Vlad Tepes, so known by the whole world under the name of Dracula ...
Maybe some other time ...
Enjoy my short blog and the most important thing would be also to enjoy my photos and do not hesitate to visit this place when you'll travel through Romania.
Regards.
