BEING TRUSTWORTHY IS AN ESSENTIAL VIRTUE IN LIFE.

In the society today, this simple and very important virtue "trust" or "trustworthiness" is almost going extinct. It's disheartening to know that some people no longer have an atom of trustworthiness in them. Everyone (family members, friends, colleagues, business associates, neighbors etc) who knows them is aware that they cannot be trusted with anything, not even with the simplest thing as saying the truth.

It's so disheartening to even think that such people care less about how other people view them. I believe so because if they did, they would at least try to change. But no, they go deeper and deeper into it.

You go into a business deal with them, they hijack the business and even threaten your life if you dare complain.

You vote them into electoral offices to go represent the people, they turn tyrants, looting the taxpayers money and anyone who opposes is done with.

If you lend money to them hoping that they will pay back as promised, that's the end of the story. You lose the money and lose all connections with them.

Some of them cannot keep to their words. You confide in them about certain personal issues, the next minute you hear it being discussed elsewhere.
It is so bad.

As important as life is, one should see being trustworthy same way because it has so many benefits. Infact they can't be quantified or measured with anything.

Here are some of the benefits;

• A trustworthy person earn people's respect and likeness
• People will always like to associate with you
• If you are in business, people will like to patronize you and even send referrals.
• In the workplace, a trustworthy staff stands a better chance of being given higher responsibility or even promotion than other less trustworthy colleagues.
• Being trustworthy in relationships helps build good rapport, and leads a positive and successful relationship.

But an untrustworthy person looses a lot.
People tend to disassociate themselves with the person. He or she rarely build good and successful relationships. I doubt if anyone would want to be associated with an untrustworthy person except if they are same birds that flock together

• Business wise, the person rarely gets referrals. No one would want to refer someone to an untrustworthy person. I wouldn't either.

• In the society, people may tend to disrespect and disregard him or her. No one will want to seek their opinions in any matter.

I value trust a lot. I wouldn't want to be be tagged as "you see luchyl, she can never be trusted" No way, not in this life or the next, if there will be.

Final Words

Inasmuch as one cannot be 100% trustworthy, it's important to maintain a considerable level of trust with people.

Learn to be trustworthy

It may not be easy but with commitment, resilience, focus it can be achieved.
