Pathaan (2023) Movie Review Which Has Same Traitor Theme Explored As The Covenant And Kandahar

What's The Hype?

Shahrukh Khan returns to Bollywood after a very long break in this epic action spy thriller movie playing the lead character here as Pathaan. We can see the intensity starts right at the very beginning of the movie after the brief introduction of the characters and basic premise.

Basic Plot

The Indian government is facing a huge issue because one of its main military assets has gone rogue all of a sudden and is devising a plan to release a huge virus across all of India this person is seen as a traitor by the military think tank of India high ranking officials played by John Abraham as Jim. However, we find out later in the movie that John Abraham's monster character is created because the military failed to protect his wife and children during a mission Jim was captured along with his family and apparently according to the official reports was tortured and then later murdered as the government that was supposed to protect Jim did not meet the ransom demands of the captures.

And I agree with the warnings of the hero Pathaan here saying this was one of their biggest mistakes by not paying the ransom on time for the captures of Jims and his family as he risked his life many times for the protection of the state really.
The female lead character plays a dual agent role by Depika Pedikone as Rubal who also starred in various famous Hollywood productions as well and most recently was one of the presenters at the recent FIFA world cup as well If I am not mistaken.

Why People Should Watch It

People will always remember this movie for the action scenes, high-octane stunts, special effects, explosions, hand-to-hand combat, and Shahrukh Khan playing the hero and his muscles, John Abrahams's one-liners and Deepika Padukone's important role as playing both sides of the war.

Comparing it to The Covernant And Kandahar Movies

However, I see this movie compared to the recent trending theme of TRAITORS, it is simple really governments around the world do not like them and usually the punishment is the death penalty.
We saw this happening with the Taliban Regime in two blockbuster recent productions as they wanted to finish off the traitors namely Kandahar (2023) and Guy Ritchies The Covenant (2023) yet in both these movies we saw it from the angle of the Western powers because quite rightly it is their movies so they are the ones who are providing the narrative that is understandable.
I hate war all together in its entirety especially the ongoing one of Ukraine vs Russia and I hope that peace prevails. But I do understand that on the battlefield there is no such thing as friendship amongst the opposition forces. It is all war and hesitation is seen as a sign of weakness that can be exploited to the maximum.
John Abrahams's character Jim did not get justice in this movie and he became a monster and died not as a martyr which should have been the obvious case but as a monster a monster that was created by the traitors who betrayed him and made him the traitor instead. I give this movie 10/10 and recommend to watch it and for your information, it is available both in Hindi and English dubbing as well.
