While value may have a distinct interpretation, a lot of us attach a varied meaning to it. Such is the unique influence that perspective has on us.
While personal relations play their part it could also vary in relation to a type of product or service.
For example, a person could prefer buying a house to spending on a vacation while another would opt for the latter. Judging from an individual perspective it's more important to do what's in touch with our personal values and current state.
From an organisational/group perspective an institution may be reluctant to embracing a new product or an innovative service to offer simply because it's against its tradition even if it has little to do with its protocols.

Generally, it's true that value comes before reward. Interestingly enough you almost can't define reward without the indication of value at all.

How rewards get distributed in proportionate to value and what does it tell us

Much can be said about how reward and value go side-by-side in equality though it can be argued that's not always the case which we'll dive into in a minute.
Social hierarchy, quality, demand and a state of being scarce are all a bunch of factors that magnify value as a whole.
Precisely, let's divulge the unrelatable difference between value and quality which can be confused at times.
Value is an expected equivalent of a product or service based on merits and price.
Quality is the benefits and reliability inherent that ensure its desirability.
Rental, transportation, fashion, beauty, health care services and other consumer based products like food and drinks to name a few are all subject to undulation with reference to the above stated factors.
It's obvious that everything is interconnected and that it's ultimately above individual power to alter all these continuous cycle of wavering.

The nuances of reward and value such as effort and luck

More value more rewards. It doesn't always feel that way does it?.

Reaping rewards in today's society is like having a boat at sea. While others reap it through hard work and dedication by descending into depths and fishing out ample rewards. Some need not go far and wide to get more or less the same results. Still there are others who feel unheard and unseen for their input and tend to think that it all comes down to knowing the right people and being well aware of how the system works.
While this can be true to some extent it also highlights one of the most significant factors in notably anything that is to bare fruits, time.
In short despite the familiarity, it's always enlightening to state that things take time.
Being a topic of its own, time is a master of its own displaying its dominance in almost anything if not everything. That's why its efficient management is key to success.

Angling it all up, both effort and luck have a say as far as they both exist.
Effort promises steady flow and far more perceivable outcome than luck's absolute unpredictability.
It's appealing to be on the safer side and since there's freewill to rely on any it might be better to back things with labor while fortune still stands a chance.
After all it's better to swing the golf club with both hands than one.
