The Future Unveiled: Describing the Smartphone to Someone from the 60s

This topic was very hard to discuss, so it took me nearly 30 hours to drop an entry. People from the much older generation still find it hard to navigate or even use the smartphone. Some go as far as marvel at the use of the smartphone and wonder how this small device in your hands can do all of these things. I once had difficulty explaining a smartphone to my mother years ago, but I found a pathway; as I said, it operates as a computer.

My mum, who had the opportunity of working as a secretary, was familiar with how a computer works and what it is. However, to this day, she does not know how to operate an iPhone my older brother gave her. Anyways, based on the fact that the people from the '60s will know what a computer is, I will be leveraging my answer on it and if by any chance, they do not know, the other explanations tailored in the paragraphs that follow will share more light on it.

I will explain what a smartphone is by linking it to the telephone used in the 60s. I will explain that a smartphone is also a phone like a phone that they are already used to. However, this smartphone can do a lot more than just the normal voice communication the telephone does. I will then link a smartphone to a computer system and go further to say that it is a computer system which was created in a very portable size to voice call and send a text like the normal postal mail. One could also watch a movie on it, just like on television.

It is important to let this person know that smartphones are portable devices that can be carried anywhere and everywhere, unlike the big telephones that are always at home or in the office. I will let them know that they can make their call anywhere and anytime without being in their home. It is very important to link the smartphone to the home telephone and computer seat so that they will get the picture clearly; if not, they will be lost. Besides, a smartphone is a computer device which is just portable in size.

In addition to the above, I will further explain a smartphone's other features. I will do this by explaining to them that smartphones have an inbuilt camera which could allow them to take pictures of beautiful moments in time. With smartphones, the past can still be revisited in a photo. They would be familiar with how cameras work within their time. I will explain that smartphones can also function like a camera. It can also be used to record videos of key moments so you do not get to lose or miss out on anything.

I will then go further and tell them that the smartphone could be their calculator and their one-stop for accessing information. I will start by linking smartphones to radios and also calculators as these two apps comes with every smartphone and this gadget that they are already familiar with, so it will be easier for them to assimilate that information. Lastly, I will explain to them that smartphones are their one-stop for all entertainment as they see a movie and play games right from their phones. With all this, they would eventually understand and picture what the smartphone is and what it can do.

Well done, well explained. It is clearly teaching them from what they already know such as the telephone you mentioned. Truly, smartphones are amazing

You have done justice to this task dear friend, an I commend your lovely effort. I love your approach in answering questions, and by telling them first about how smartphones are likened to computers and telephones would be a great start.

Thanks for sharing and goodluck in this contest.
