Freedom: A Gift or a Curse

In a world where freedom is a fundamental human right of every individual, it will be hard to see the negative of it. As the world keeps advancing, so does people's demand on numerous things, but freedom on many things has been constant. Freedom allows many people to express themselves in the best way they think they can. This freedom has led to us enjoying the diversity in music, cultures, entertainment and even growth in the business and technology sector. However, some of this expression led to catastrophic events that threatened human existence (A recent example is the Covid 19 event).

In my opinion, Freedom is great, but too much freedom is catastrophic in nature. To prove this point, when you look around all the world's countries, what is the one thing one notices? You will notice that they are a law in each of those countries. This law was established to ensure that each citizen could live in harmony and peace with one another. There is nothing like total freedom, as we all live within the condiment of the law. So yeah, I feel they could be too much freedom in a lawless state, which could be the end of human existence.

I would like to sight an example of what could become of us if we lived in a lawless state and everyone would be free to do whatever they want. They will be chaos in full drive, people killing other people and getting away scot-free. The vandalism and thuggery will be at an all-time high, and the world will be too disorganised to witness any real growth or development because people will be focused on survival. This is just what will happen within a country; imagine what will happen between two countries; War will be the other day as there is no law or sanction to eliminate such occurrences.

Freedom is a fallacy, and it is only good when given sparingly. Freedom, when appropriately controlled, is great and leads to productivity. As kids, they are certain things our parent exposes us to. The things parents exposed us to help form our habits and patterns and also translate to how we view life. Imagine our parents allowing us to enjoy total freedom; this could have resulted in us being exposed to bad habits such as porn, gambling, stealing, lying, drug abuse and alcohol at a tender age. The effect of all this on this society will make us a threat to ourselves and the community. We will see some of our habits as normal, not knowing they are not and are even suicidal. Can you Imagine the number of people who have died from drug abuse or drunk driving?

As I said, the effect would have been catastrophic if people were to enjoy too much freedom. The number of gun violence incidents in some states in America is alarming. When you compare the number of gun incidence in states that allow the usage of guns by its citizen against the state that does not allow citizens to carry guns, you will understand the need for a bit of restriction in freedom.

In addition, too much freedom can lead to social disorder and chaos. Society can become unstable and unpredictable in a world with no law or policy to curtail human behaviour. Even the little freedom has resulted in people changing their gender type from male to female. Many people now suddenly do not feel comfortable in their own skin, and they want to be referred to in a certain way. The number of pronouns circulating in English now is something to laugh about, but then, the society had allowed it due to the immerse freedom some government had allowed. In my country, Nigeria, the only pronouns used remains He/She, Him/Her. I once saw a news program recently where a man had his eyes blinded because he had always felt like a blind person, while another person had his leg removed because he had always felt handicapped. This is the effect of what too much freedom leads to.

I believe that people enjoying their freedom is great; however, this freedom should be controlled, restricted, and monitored to curtail the demons that live in humans. As humans, we can easily abuse power. Now imagine what would become of us if we had the freedom to do anything and get away with it; it would end the world. A lawless state is a ticking bomb that will consume all in it.

I agree with you that too much freedom can cause chaos and war will be the other of the day. Can you imagine the little freedom we still have but some humans have chosen to go for transgender and change everything they are into something else, of course, we know what happens next. When freedom is too much given to someone, he or she will eventually abuse it and would cause catastrophic. Everything should be in moderation and not in excess because it is bad.
