A Day Commuting

I don't have to commute to work everyday but today I ride to work.Today. most Indonesian workers go to work by motorcycles or cars. There are only a few people who commute by public transportation. The most used public transportation is train because it is cheap. A roundtrip from Bekasi to Jakarta will only spend around IDR 10.000 or $0.8. On the other hand, public transportations like cars and buses are expensive. For one trip from Bekasi to Jakarta, you can spend IDR 15.000 or $1.
The weakness is that train is only available in the center of the city. People who work far from the center of the city, they prefer to go by motorcycles. 1 littre of gas is IDR 10.000 or $08. It is the lowest RON. With 1 littre of fuel by a motorcycle, one can ride 40 to 60 km.

From my house, where workers who work in the Cikarang industrial park, workers need 1 littre for roundtrip commuting. It needs only $0.8. It means communting by motorcycles will save more than 100% of cost of fare everyday. This is one reason why people like motorcycle.

People who work in the managerial positions with higher salary, they like to go to work by car. The cost of the trip by personal car is more expensive but people have previlege and do not get wet when there is rain.

In the evening, workers like to stop at restaurants. They also like to go shopping. Now, there is a trend in Indonesia, chain shops and fast food restaurants like to open their new counters near housing residences. They do not open in a mall. One of the reason is the rent fee is too expensive in a mall.

Renting a counter on a shopping arcades is cheaper with parking area facilities. The space is also large eanough. Commuters like to stop at the fast food restaurants in the evening.
