What's the buzzword you use to attract normies to Web3?

Web3 folks have been building a very fabulous and adorable ecosystem for a couple of years. We work with the idea of value creation and we want to have a product that has a proper use case and is built on a Blockchain that runs properly before targeting massive adoption of the product we have to offer.

Are we there yet? Probably!

With the whole SocialFi trend and the well-known talk about Web3, I would bet that it's fairly obvious that this is the time for Web3 Communities to look outside and start attracting more people to their ecosystem. This isn't to say that Web3 Communities have been ignoring this. Nah!

They do their best and the community members share their success stories with families, friends and colleagues. This has been an effective way to get folks excited and subsequently get them onboard. The number of people that join Web3 through that are lot. But, we need to get more ambitious and go on a massive marketing adventure.

What do you say to someone to get the person interested in what's happening on Web3?

From what I've noticed, it seems fairly obvious that speaking about Web3 to a random someone is not an easy thing to do, especially if you are interested in getting the person interested in what's going on here. The discussions don't always fare so well except when you know the exact side of Web3 that aligns with their interest.

I can even take myself as an example. I've been in Web3 for 22 months and I'm very conscious about learning so much about this space so I would be able to make the best use of it. Even for someone like myself, any talk about NFTs or Gaming doesn't usually whet my appetite.

Now, imagine going to tell someone about Web3 gaming when the person is not interested in gaming. Also, the person doesn't know shit about Web3. That's going to be one heck of a rollercoaster ride of a conversation.

Here is what I've noticed from previous meetings;

We are already in Web3 so we understand the importance of owning our content. We understand the importance of being in a place where the governance structure is all-inclusive and we know all about being censorship-proof. These are just a snippet of what we enjoy on web3.

People erratically overestimate the degree to which any of these appeal to those in Web3

Seriously, a lot of the folks in there do not care about the ownership of their content. They don't even care about the fact that their data is getting collated and sold by the platform they are doing whatever they do.

People couldn't care less about those things. All they want is to have an account, do their stuff and go off when they are done. Now, what do you say to someone like that to draw the person into Web3?

What's the buzzword to use?

For most people in Nigeria, telling them that they can write and monetize their content is always a good start. It works 90% of the time because our currency is so weak and inflation is rocking us hard. Folks will grab any money-making opportunity that crosses their path.

What works in your part of the world? What's that buzzword that helps you get people's attention when you are preaching the Web3 gospel?
