Block the living hell out of Scammers | They are everywhere.

A lot of people on the internet say that Crypto is filled with scams, shams and rug pulls. As someone who's into cryptocurrency, hearing stuff like that can get you worked up and make you want to say they are wrong for making such a statement.

However, just think about it for a moment. Yeah! There is an element of truth in that, right?

That's it. Scams and shams come in various forms in the Crypto world. What some folks have lost to Crypto scammers is enough to make them financially comfortable for over a decade. We hear stories of these and that's why everyone is always advised to be extra careful and to make an effort to safeguard their digital assets.

These things usually happen within the twinkle of an eye. If you've been here long enough, you must have probably come across those comments on your post or DMs on your discord account where you will be told to just CLICK & CLAIM thousands of HBD or Hive. To be fair, I've been lucky on that side of things. I haven't been victimized by those phishing attacks, but I know people who have faced a huge loss because their accounts got hacked through those phishing links.

The time I got burnt by scammers in the Crypto space was when Jeff Kirdeikis, the current CEO of TrustSwap, pulled the rug on Uptrennd Platform. That platform was where I started my Crypto and content creation adventure. They ran a tokenized content creation platform where content creators earn a Crypto that's built on Ethereum Blockchain.

A bunch of the folks I know in the digital world are people I met on that platform and so many of them are still filled with negative emotions whenever Crypto is mentioned. It's just not easy to overcome a loss of that magnitude.

These things are also in abundance outside the Crypto space;

Fraudsters and scammers are everywhere. They are in Web3, they are in Web2 and they are out there in real life, call it Web0 if you like.

When people scream and make some noise about Crypto being filled with scammers, I try to understand that because that's true, but I don't enjoy bein where that narrative is pushed a little too much. Yeah, there are scammers in this space, but walk into the street and watch how someone who's old enough to be a grandparent will shamelessly scam a kid.

The scams that I've come face to face with are so many. We have debit card scammers, job vacancy scammers, call centre scammers, and customer care scams. Stuff like that.

Take the above screenshot for an example... If you know anything about our salary structure and the current minimum wage which is #30000 monthly, you will surely see that a #25000 daily pay is like smashing the goldmine. It's truly a juicy offer, but I know from experience that this is a scam.

I even got one such message yesterday...

Screenshot_20231026-125136.png

He's such a good Samaritan for extending the offer and passing the generic info to me, but I can assure you that this message was just an attempt to kickstart a back and forth conversation that will end with me getting asked to "Send Money" to secure a slot in the job.

All these unsophisticated attempts from these folks is one of the reasons I had to install Truecaller, an App that helps me profile any phone number that gives me a call or sends me a message. That way, I can easily block the living hell out of such people. I just don't have the time to engage in any time-wasting drama with any shady being.

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma.

Scammers are very cunning. They offer a lot of opportunities and scam us at the end. It is we who scammed ourselves because we didn't make search and click on the links and accept these sorts of offers. These job vacancies offer and prize draws messages are common, be careful my mate.

You went all out for this prompt. Scams are everywhere and they take different forms.

The one where you have to claim or call a certain number to redeem a prize gets me very pissed. I just sigh and move along.

That's exactly the reaction I get. They will call to inform you that you won millions yet they want you to send thousands as a claiming fee. I don't understand the logic they use, but I know that people fall into their trap.

It's actually sad.

Exactly. The damage it causes are usually overwhelming and it is sad that it has made so many people to quit getting into the opportunities that are available in the crypto space.

I've used the Truecaller app, which is very good at identifying callers. Nowadays I don't answer unknown numbers, because what we have most of is scammers wanting a piece of your money.

We are the same. Mine has been that way since few years ago. If I see a number I don't know and the name shown by Truecaller doesn't ring a bell, I just ignore it completely.
