So the family began this little adventure into hobby farming and raising chickens in 2023....

We had moved into our country home last year and spent the majority of the year, fixing leaks and removing asbestos lol

So this year was....Basic farming and an introduction to livestock!

I was home this week from driving, and got a chance to hang out in the garden and with the feathered friends...

Here's a few pictures of the day in the yard :)

First - I'm not sure what this rooster is thinking, but newsflash buddy....We can see you, trying to hide behind the tree!

Second - We put some corn, potatoes and a few other vegetables in front of the chicken barn...The birds love pecking at the leaves, and hey, it keeps the bug population down too!

Third - We harvested a few cobs of corn this evening for dinner...I'll let you know how they taste lol

Fourth - Let's just say, we've mastered the art of growing potatoes lol. This was just a quarter of what we still have to dig up!

Fifth - Potatoes everywhere! But also....Zuchini! Seriously, HUGE veggies!

Sixth - And finally, the end of the day required a nice picture of the garden and yard. We also had a moose run by our home earlier in the afternoon...He's lucky we didn't hunt him!!! Moose meat on the menu next week maybe ;)

I loved having fresh produce up on Wisconsin. We worked on a farm harvesting cucumbers. But around us other farms planted potatoes, corn, and cabbage, among other things.

Woah, that's amazing Jon! I am seeing roasted potatoes and roasted zucchini. Oh, and next time save your zucchini flowers. They're great cut up in salad or you can lightly bread and fry them.

We're still trying to figure out who to give this stuff away to lol Way too much for us alone.

Do they have food pantries up there that would take fresh produce as a donation?
Just a thought.
Happy Sunday, @jongolson! 😆

Wow! I love that potato crop!

I need to grow potatoes like that! They are so expensive here, in relative terms I think. They have just been going up so fast in price.

The other thing that is wildly overpriced are onions!

Yeah it's crazy. We might have spent like 10 bucks on seed potatoes, and that's what we harvested. Still about 25% left to get out of the ground.

I am glad you are able to have fun during your days off and it's funny to see the rooster trying to hid behind a small tree.

The yard looks very nice and quiet. Is there any other house? I would love to do farming there. The potatoes seems to be enough for at least two months consuming :)

Yeah our home is on the property as well, but that's our barn across the yard.

I also have a garden and I never harvested so many potatoes, I congratulate you. I started raising laying hens with my dad, we have already harvested 20 eggs

We're still waiting on the first bunch of eggs. We should be getting them this month.

There's nothing that compares with the joy of harvesting your own crops, vegetables and having your own livestock, that's why agriculture makes one rich because you eat your own produce as well as sell to make some money, I really like it,! 😂

Absolutely!

Loved being able to pick food right from the garden yesterday and cook it for dinner.
