The Evolution of Photography: Capturing Generations Through Lens

Looking at my grandparents hanging on the wall of our parlor, I smiled with the thought "time really flies." I smiled because the quality of cameras of this present age cannot be compared with their own time; unfortunately, they weren't alive to see how technology has grown drastically. Maybe in their mind, technology was at its peak in their time - unknown to them it's just starting.

From the quality of black and white photographs capturing my grandparents' era to the fairly colored images of my parent's generation, photography has evolved gradually into a renowned art form, reflecting the progression of technology, culture, and human innovation.

With the knowledge I have about photography and photogrammetry (a branch in the field of surveying), I see that technology has affected the evolution of photography to have a clearer view of images. Before now, black and white photography dominated the scene for decades, capturing lots of moments. These monochromatic images moved into colored images, though their texture looked fainting, this was during my parents' era. Through the colorful lens, memories were preserved and were clearer than my granny's time.

As time kept flying, technology continued to advance, photography went beyond the earthly boundaries, moving into the skies and space. The photographs in the sky were seen to be aerial photographs; it made life easier for photographers. Inaccessible areas were captured because of this innovation. This photography emerged as a powerful tool for capturing landscapes, urban developments, and other geographic features. Another uniqueness of this photograph is its quality. In this era, images were sharper, clearer and more authentic.

Moving forward, technology didn't end there, satellite photography emerged. This revolutionized our understanding, giving a wider view of areas, providing access to remote locations and global phenomena. Moreso, the era is used for monitoring environmental changes, mapping urban growth, etc.

The Present and Beyond: Photography in the Digital Age

Today, photography is more accessible and versatile than ever before, unlike the BC generation - thanks to the innovation of digital cameras and smartphones. Now, with a simple click, we can capture, edit, and share moments instantaneously. It is not utilized by experts only, but everyone can use it to share and preserve memories.

Looking ahead, the evolution of photography shows no signs of ending in this era. Very soon, we will redefine how we interact with images and perceive the world around us.

Conclusion

The evolution of photography shows how human creativity, innovation, and the enduring desire to capture and share our experiences have increased. From black and white images to the digital age and beyond, photography continues to evolve. Also, as we look back on the journey from black and white to aerial and satellite photography, we are reminded of the power of images to grow beyond time, preserve memories, and connect generations in visuals.
