~FFF~ Holy Tostadas Batman~Foodfightfriday~ and some brisket mayhem

I tell you what, wether I am on vacation or back to the grind at work... these Friday's sneak up on me. I always feel like I am getting caught with my pants doowww.... Off guard and unprepared. Great!!! That makes me flash back to the Boy Scout days and the Boy Scout Motto... “Be Prepared” It seems I need to get back to my Eagle Scout roots. Lol. Actually I have been scrambling the last couple days to prep for 7 days of snow in the forcast. Again, I don’t wanna get caught with my pants... not pulled up.

It’s my first week back from vacation, a vacation from... everything. Yes, it’s true... even food fight Friday. Well I didn’t post a contender but did pull myself off of my big blue sectional couch with down feather filled cushions to handle my duties as one of the 3 heads of lettuce that run @foodfightfriday. Hey, gotta take care of my peeps, even it it means getting off the couch and pausing an episode of Lost in Space. Have you seen that series on Netflix??? If not, I highly recommend it. It’s a remake of a 60’s tv show and if I was born back in the 60’s I would have watched it then too. Lol.

Food... yes I ate a lot of food... cooked a brisket that was nearly an epic fail which I will gently touch on later but Tostadas Yes... Tostadas It has been forever since we made Tostadas at the Splatts house (why am I using italics whenever I write Tostadas? Ok I’m done with that. Hey @dandays how do you get control over these dang thumbs when they want to use italics on a certain word?? Tostadas... dang it!!! Did it again!!)

Great now these dang thumbs want to use italics on everything but the word Tostadas... Okay time out!! Huddle up Thumbs lets talk this out.

Ummmmm what the... where did that come from?? Duhhh... the internet of course. It’s funny what you find when you type random phrases and add the word “gif” after it. Go ahead try it, it’s fun. Oh ya, food this is suppose to the about tostadas. Them dang thumbs!!! I must be talking to @dandays too much.... let me check... nope that isn’t it??? Hey, keep your wild thumb disease to yourself would ya?

Okay tostadas.. whiteman tostadas... no that isn’t racist, that is what it is. Tostadas made by a whiteman. Therefore they are not the Authentic type you follow me? They aren’t the color white either, just made by Caucasians. There that is the word I was looking for. Lol Okay jokes aside and food in your face let’s get into these tostadas shall we...

Before we realized it, more like we totally brain farted, we only had a few topping to throw on the tostadas. Actually come to think of it, they were pretty loaded. There was a nice pile on top of that crispy chip like corn tortilla. A little Ground beef and some refined beans As the first layers on the tostada shells

For toppings we went with, cheese, cilantro, avocados, olives, tomatoes, sour cream, and some sweet habanero sauce. See, just pile it on and hopefully you can eat it all.

I always try different kind of habanero sauce and this one is new to me. It had a nice spicy kick I can tell you that. Yet it wasn’t over powering to the point I couldn’t taste any of the other ingredients. I can’t stand it when sauces are soo hot all you can think about is how F-ing incredibly hot and dang near painful it is. I mean, what fun is that? How enjoyable is that meal? It’s NOT there I answered the question for you. 😉 I really like the habanero flavor, it’s sweet heat hits the spot for me, just use it sparingly is my recommendation.

Typically I pile on 4 tostadas on one plate. This time, 4 just wasn’t going to fit. Did they make the tostada shells bigger or something?? 3... 3 is me this time, I hope it is enough....

So I am down to one tostada left and I am wondering, What happened to my appetite? Then I started pondering what I ate prior to dinner... Ummm... and.... ummmm Ya, I forgot. At the moment 3 piled high tostadas just might be enough... I am down to the last one and the struggle is real I’m tellin’ ya...

Dang kids!!! We can’t do anything around this place without something poopy happening. Really??? Who just writes that on a piece of paper at the table... never mind don’t answer that! Ah poop whats next... oh ya, a finished plate. Do you want to see that? Too bad you are gonna see it anyway because I am the one in command of this kitchen... sorry no, no I am not.. just this post not the Food Fight Friday kitchen. I am not one to go snatchin’ spatulas from the top dog in the kitchen. My bad

Yep... She Gone!..

It was great to switch things up a bit and have Tostdas instead of tacos. (Thumbs... don't even start that again!) I don’t know about you but around here we get stuck in a taco rut and totally forget about burritos, tostadas, quesadillas, taco salads... wait... are we back at tacos again!!

Good grief!!! Well what do you do other than a little food flinging brisket bonus? I am telling you I tried really hard to screw this one up. I mean I have it my best!! I cooked a brisket for the first time on my Green Mountain Grill. Prior to that, I had a sneaky hunch my thermometer was a little off. My burgers had been taking longer, the ribs, everything wasn’t timing out right. Pork chops taking 45 minutes to an hour... that unheard of!! This brisket was definite proof that things just weren’t right. When I pulled it off the grill to wrap it, it seemed like it was barely cooked... it had been on there for 7 hours @ 185F.

I started that 7 pound brisket at 4:30 am and didn’t pull it off the grill until 9 pm. And it still wasn’t done!!! Even after cranking the temp 75 degrees over what the recommended cooking temp. Well that is what my grill said the temp was anyway. So I threw it in the oven preheated to 400F and then just shut it off. I left it in there overnight and sliced it up bright and early 5 am the next morning. Well try try I may... this brisket sure looks tast-ay!!

It didn’t work out for dinner that night but it sure did make for some tasty lunchtime brisket sandwiches and even a brisket burrito. By the way, did you see that red smoke ring??? DAAAANG Well one good thing is for $15 I got a new thermometer and my grill times with be back on schedule, maybe it will help with my #fff posts too :wink:wink
