Question Is, Would I Though?

There are a lot of things I almost never think of. My retirement plans are one of them. I don’t know why but I’ve never had a distinct plan towards retirement. And I mean this is the literal sense of the word retirement plan, which involves having a particular savings account which is constantly being deposited into so I can afford the life I want to live later on.

I feel that a retirement plan or at least mine transcends that. In the first place, I believe that if I work hard, and do everything that I’ve always been doing, plus favours here and there, I would be able to live the life I want to live when that time comes. So, this is not me writing about my savings scheme towards retirement, this is about what I will do or what I am doing currently to ensure that my life will be nothing short of happy when I retire.

First off, will I really retire? I think that depends on how you look at it. Currently, I am studying towards becoming a practising lawyer. But the truth is, I’m not quite sure I may end up practising law as a profession or at least my means of making ends meet, because in this part of the world, the Judiciary doesn’t have the power or dignity it used to, so that kind of takes away the novelty of the profession. But that’s not what we’re talking about today. What I’m trying to say in essence is that, even if I end up practising and later retire, some aspects of my life won’t be retired.

Hive, for instance. Hive is a home to everyone. Young and old if you deign to categorise them, which is not something I do. It sounds cliché to say that I’m not here for the earnings and it would be false anyways because that contributes more than anything to why I remain here. But to sweeten the already amazing offer, I get to write about the things I want, I get to showcase my passion, and I get to truly express myself, it’s not something I wish to retire from. Because as far as I still have the grace to, I’ll always be a part of this Chain, the few negativities and my disagreements aside.

So yeah, part of my retirement plan is to keep being on Hive. Hopefully, by then, I will be well secure in my finances to truly be free and express myself the way I want to, and help people do same as well. It’s amazing the number of people who live in fear of expression, fear that they won’t be heard or fear that they would be misunderstood. I hope to give them a voice that as far as they abide by the general rules of the Chain, they are otherwise free to be truly themselves and trust that even if not everyone agrees, the people that get them would.

Another part of my retirement plan is to secure my happiness by making sure my loved ones are happy. There’s nothing like regrets in your retirement. I mean, you have a lot of time on your hands now and so there’s no major work to distract you from reminiscing. And by reminiscing the good thoughts flow, and of course, the regrets. I do not want to have any major regrets. And even if I do, I don’t want it to be on account of the wrong way I treated someone or the help I didn’t offer. You can only be truly happy when you know you’ve spent the majority of your life making others happy. And that’s what I want for myself.

Currently, I may not be making as much as I want for myself or at least enough to guarantee my future and have a soft life, as my people would say. But I am working towards living a life of contentment. And that can only be achieved by living the best life. And what’s the best life? It’s a life filled with the knowledge that you did what is right by yourself and other people. That you chased your dreams. That you were able to impact people in whatever way possible.

I’m not sure if my retirement plan is vague or as concrete as it needs to be. Maybe my priorities would change later on or maybe they won’t because this is what would always be at the foreground of my thoughts. But let’s keep watching. Till then, don’t fail to always live your best life.

Jhymi🖤

Good to know your aspiration towards being a lawyer. Hive is a beautiful home that isn't worth retiring from. It's powerful how hive has helped me to connect with wonderful people ready to assist me in my growth here. Full of opportunities, earning while sharing your passion and interest.

Much love from me dear jhymi 😍. This is a brilliant conclusion! Hope you're well?😊

I don't have a retirement plan, either, so we're cool ;) I like the idea of Hive as a retirement plan, though. Finally, something I can get behind.

Oh, yes. Hive is definitely a part of the retirement plan for me. For real, I have been more of myself here than anywhere else, and that extends to off-chain-related activities as well. And like you, hopefully, I hope to someday give people a voice and empower them to be just themselves by being an example myself. Nothing short of wholesome, that's what this is, Fangy.

Your idea of retirement is dope and fun exactly what I would do as well and also add a little travelling to it and we're good. Like you said let's watch and see, time will tell if our preferences are still the same or not...cheers dear, have a great weekend

Hive is a nice idea for a retirement plan. It offers a place for self expression and also a source of income for many already. If Hive moons then it will be a a source of income for all.
Despite that it is still good to have a back up plan. Just like one mostly rely on more than one source of income - the same is true when one gets older. No one know what the future holds.

Yeah, you're right. So I'm trying to acquire as much knowledge as I can in other fields so that I'd never get to be stranded.
Sorry this is coming late, friend. Hope you're doing well.💜

Hmmmmm, you never seize to amaze me with your beautiful write up, you are one of the dreemers I always want to curate her posts, I expect nothing short of amazing from your post and you have never once disappointed me my dear, I am a big fan, I now see where your grammars and speeches come from, a lawyer you say!, I see you there my dear, well well well, you have said a lot of meaningful things up there and I can’t agree more to it because they are all on point, I love the fact that your retirement plan is not same as others, yours is special because even if you are retired as a lawyer, you are not retired as a writer which means you are unretiredly retired lol, hive is part of your retirement plans and also the most important thing, leaving every bit of you in the life of others is wonderful; happiness goes a long way my dear, I see you going places, thanks my lady, see you soon…

Well, in most cases it depends on the stage we are, the amount we earn and our present focus to really think about things such as retirement, so it is understandable if it is not something you are thinking of presently.

It seems career professions in Nigeria are losing there credibility, in so doing the numbers of practitioners willing to get involved are reducing day by day which is quite sad, in your case at the level you are, you don't longer believe in the credibility and verdict of the judiciary despite studying law, I have a cousin who just did her convocation recently, she got admission into law school but she kept saying she is not interested in practicing law, she is just doing all that to satisfy her parents. It is really sad.

Considering hive, I believe it to be a continuous process as long as it is still around. It is the same for me too, I don't think such thing as retirement is applicable to my hive career 😅😂.

Omo I've certainly lost a lot of hope in that field. It's really sad that we have no faith in the judiciary but be that as it may, I do have a passion for the practice itself but I'm not putting much of my mind on it. And as for your cousin, I guess it must have been the pressure of her parents that made her study the course in the first place. A very unfortunate ordeal.

The funny part is, she was the one that picked law, she chose to study law because her dad wanted her to study political science but she refused. She was passionate about it only God knows what happened along the line

That's rather sad. I hope she finds her way to doing what she really wants pretty soon, because there's nothing as bad as being in a career that you hate.

The good news in Nigeria is, it doesn't matter which course you study in school, you can always work in other fields not related to the course you studied.

I have seen someone who studied industrial chemistry working in a bank😂😂

Lol. And politicians being people who studied Environmental science. It's just like that my dear. In the end, we may all earn our means of living from something else.
