Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Wands Out

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Wands Out rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Holy Protection and Wands Out. This means that only magic monsters can be used and all cards start off with divine shield. There is also 36 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, water, earth, or life splinter.

The summoner I choose to use this time is Bortus. In a match like this, I think that reducing the magic damage is the right choice because only magic monsters can be used.

Bortus3Summoner-1 magic
Djinn Oshannus81stVoid and phase
Nerissa Tridawn92ndMagic Damage Dealer
Captain's Ghost73rdAffliction
Spirit Hoarder34thTriage and Dispel
Magi of Chaos65thMagic Damage Dealer
Total Mana:36

My plan is just to have a lineup using a Djinn Oshannus up front with void and phase. This is a great combination with Bortus as I can reduce a lot of the magic damage that I take. I have two cards with 3 magic attack to help incase I fight a void monster and and -1 magic. Spirit Hoarder is there for triage to deal with blast damage and Captain's Ghost for affliction.

Round 1

round 1.png
At first glance, I have the advantage because my opponent can't damage me much outside of Quora. It shouldn't take too long to remove Quora because of my damage and affliction. After that, there will only be one card that can deal damage to my Oshannus. The good thing for me is that phase lets me dodge some of the magic attacks but my opponent can't dodge any of my attacks.

Round 3

round 3.png
I was able to kill off Quora so there is only one card that can deal damage to my Oshannus. Since we are dealing with a magic only match, I have this match won because I can't miss any of my attacks.

Like I thought, I was able to win the match a few turns later.

Conclusion

The battle this time around went exactly as I expected. The lineup I went for allowed me to reduce the damage that I took and it gave me plenty of time to take out my opponent. I wasn't expecting to fight a Quora but I am glad to see that I was able to take it early on. Besides that, my opponent only had one card that could damage me because of my summoner. The -1 magic and void/phase combination is such a great combination in these wands out rulesets. I had a few different combinations ready for different scenarios but I didn't need to worry about those.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.

Bortus is very useful in Wands Out ruleset especially if one can use Oshannus as a magic Tank.
