Splinterlands Weekly Challenge Battle BATTLE MAGE SECRETS! Odd Ones Out

Every week there is a Splinterlands challenge to share a rule set using a specific card and on this week's post it is a battle with the Odd Ones Out rule set. I also encourage Splinterlands players to partake in the challenge because you get to try different strategies and earn some crypto in the process.

Rule set, Battle and Plan

The ruleset this time is Odd Ones Out and Briar Patch. This means that only odd mana monsters can be used and every monster has thorns. There is also 39 mana available and I am left with the choice of just life splinter splinter.

summoner.png

The summoner I choose to use this time is General Sloan. In a match like this, I think that having +1 ranged attack is a good thing and I can use monsters to their highest level. Melee monsters have trouble due to the ruleset.

SplinterMana CostPositionReason
General Sloan4Summoner+1 Ranged
Imperial Knight71stHeal and Void Armor
Evelyn Auvera52ndImmunity
Zyriel73rdWeapons Training and Life Leech
Truthspeaker34th+2 shield
Adelade Brightwing75thRepair and Resurrect
Lone Boatman56thSnipe and Repair
Total Mana:38

My plan is to have Imperial Knight with void armor to deal with any magic monsters. It also has heal to offset any damage from thorns. Then I have two monsters without any attack power get ranged attack by Zyriel due to weapon training. This is also buffed up by my summoner. I also Truthspeaker there with protect to get +2 shield for all of my team. Combine that with two repair cards, I have a solid team that can live longer.

Round 1

round 1.png
At the first glance of my opponent's lineup, I think me and my opponent are about even. I am worried about my opponent's gladiator card because it has the snipe ability as a magic monster so my shield is not that useful. So it depends on how fast I can kill off my opponent to win.

Round 3

round 3.png
I skipped forward to Round 3 because me and my opponent were just trading blows. I am not liking that magic snipe monster at all and it will be a threat if I leave it in the backline any longer. It will depend on how fast I can take out the rest of his team.

Round 4

round 4.png
I was lucky enough to drop that Gladiator into the front spot. With the Void Armor ability, I can delay my opponent and it depends on whether or not I land my hits now to win the match.

Round 5

round 5.png
Now that the gladiator is gone, I can breathe easy and I have this match won because I have two repair monsters and heal. There is no chance for my opponent to damage me.

After a few more rounds, I was able to finish off my opponent.

Conclusion

The battle this time around did not go as I expected. The magic snipe monster messed up my plans but I was able to land enough attacks and win the match before my opponent could go any further. My choice of repair was great though because it did allow my tank to live long enough for me to kill the rest of my opponent's team. I am glad that I focused most of my damage on the front most monster as that allowed me to push the Gladiator up to the front earlier. My choice of using General Sloan was a good idea and by combining weapons training, I was able to build a strong team with lots of ranged damage.

You can see my entire match here.

What did you think of my match? Was there anything you would have done differently? I think it is quite interesting to see how different players play in a ruleset.
