Splinterlands Social Media Challenge: Beginner Tips

The weekly Splinterlands Social Media challenge inspired this post and it's an interesting topic to talk about. Back when I first started my journey here on Splinterlands, it led me to Hive because I was looking for more information on Splinterlands. One of the thing that the blogs stated was the blog to earn aspect.

Introduction to Splinterlands

Break down the fundamental concepts of the game.

Splinterlands is a blockchain game on the Hive blockchain. In this game, you can own your cards as NFTs and use them to battle against other players. Each game is played between 2 players and each player gets a summoner plus 6 spots open for monsters. All cards have a mana cost and each battle has a maximum mana cap that you can use. So making the most of the summoners and monsters ability is the key to winning the match and there are also rulesets that can give specific abilities an advantage or disadvantage.

Getting Started

Provide tips for new players on how to navigate the platform and join battles.

When you get to the battle tab, you will see the above on the screen. The topmost center tab lets you switch between modern format or wild format. Both formats have their advantages but I believe that Modern is better because you earn more SPS and you don't have to worry about as many cards when you first start off. Wild format allows botting and you can use all cards in the game so it becomes a lot more complicated because some of these cards are expensive due to some of the older cards.

In the top left, it shows how many seasonal chests you will get based on the points you have collected during the current season. The top right shows your current league and this affects the card/reward chests you get from your focus quest. Towards the bottom middle is the battle screen where you can battle other players and the bottom right has the current focus and how many chests you have collected today. The focus chests reset at midnight UTC every day.

The leagues will help determine your rewards. As you go up in leagues, your points and chances of getting better reward cards will also go up. In Silver league, the max summoner levels are listed and the card levels are required so you don't get reduced rewards. If you do not have that minimum level, the SPS rewards after a winning a match will be reduced.

There are two types of cards. The first is a summoner and one is required in every single match. The mana cost of the monster I put above is 4 and it is a water summoner. The additional benefits of using this summoner is that every single card on your side gets +1 armor and speed. Depending on the level of your summoner, it also affects the maximum level of your monsters in your fight.

The next type of card that you can have is a monster. Above is a water monster called Deeplurker. You can see the stats and ability that this card has at specific levels. It's starting ability is opportunity. This ability allows this monster to target the monster with the lowest health. As this card increases in level, it also learns more abilities and by mixing in cards with different abilities, you can create a powerful lineup.

In the above picture, there is Rise of the Commons and Heavy Hitters. This means that only common or rare monsters can be used and all monsters gain the knock out ability. There is also 22 mana available and I am left with the choice of fire, water, life, and dragon splinter.

For more information about how to play the game, you can visit the new player guide. I also suggest some of the third party marketplaces like monstermarket or peakmonsters to buy cards.

Strategy Tips for Beginners

Offer strategic advice for players who are just dipping their toes into Splinterlands.

To start off, I think people should try fighting using the starting deck first. You won't earn any SPS rewards but you are trying to learn about the game first. It takes time to understand how things work. When you are ready, I suggest you rent cards after because I think the barrier to entry is quite large. You can also try to get some SPS delegations so you do get some rewards. The barrier to entry doing this will be lower than buying the stuff outright. When you rent out the cards, you can also figure out if you want to own that card as well and if it works out to be profitable for you. Another thing that I suggest once you get to the point when you rent or own cards is to do tournaments. They give decent rewards and lets you understand the stronger teams. Especially if you want to play in modern because you can find tournaments for those cards.

Community Welcome

Emphasize the importance of community in Splinterlands. Encourage new players to join forums, Discord channels, or other social media groups where they can connect with experienced players, ask questions, and share their progress.

One thing that I want to emphasize is that players should try to give blogging a try. When you have a splinterlands account (bought the spellbook), you also have a Hive account. I find that blogging about your experiences and getting feedback will help you. After all, you can get some very good suggestions from people's comments or other people's posts. At the same time, you are earning crypto and you can always use this to invest into improving your splinterlands deck. So I highly suggest looking into the weekly challenges after you start off your journey. You only need to share it on some other platform as well to qualify.

Share Your Early Experience

Reflect on your own beginnings in Splinterlands. What challenges did you face, and how did you overcome them? Share any memorable moments from your early battles.

Splinterlands was tough to start off and I did what I suggested at the start. I started off with the starting deck and back then, there was no SPS so you could earn crypto even with the starting deck (if you have a spellbook). After that, I looked into resources and a lot of them pointed towards PeakD or hive.blog posts so I learned about the blogging aspect. The weekly challenges are a good way to share your own experiences on Splinterlands and to earn crypto to improve your own deck.

I do think that information not being in an easy-to-access place is annoying. So I suggest going to the Splinterlands discord if you have any issues or questions. Just get started battling and you will slowly get used to the game. The more fights you do, the more you learn so take part in a few tournaments if you have time.

Conclusion

These are my tips for Splinterlands. If you are getting started or if you think there are things that I missed, you can feel free to talk about your own experience in Splinterlands.

Feel free to leave a comment if you read my post. If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer.
