Feel The Burn, Baby!

Burnout isn't just something felt in the gym.

It's also a real problem we face in business. As entrepreneurs, we tend to go into things head first with more passion than we can sometimes sustain long term unless we pace ourselves and create healthy habits. After all, longevity is what we're looking for.

Here are my thoughts and my ideas coming into the next month of business and what I plan to change moving forward.

What are some things you do to help avoid burn out in business?

True indeed! Balance and keeping yourself organized & it is better to move around after every 30 minutes. Have a fully motivated August and keep up.

One thing I do is schedule. Hard schedule. Like, every morning I spend my first cup of coffee in the dark. I do a little meditation, and savor that first cup by thinking. Sometimes it's what I need to do today, sometimes it's ideas for ongoing projects. It's probably my least disturbed half hour of the day. Even Sam generally waits until I've turned on the lights to be needy.

I'll allow times for things. Like an hour to get ready for things (check the mail, read the box scores, check the news if there is time) then tear into doing things like responding to posts that I care about. I'll be at this for 2 hours this morning (will probably include breakfast) then on to what ever is next.

For the last few months I have allotted specific times for 'off time'. I've been reading lots which tends to energize me. I make sure there are breaks.

Thanks for a great video and for making me think. I appreciate both.

That's a great idea, Tom. Scheduling is so important. Due to having small children who are both early risers, I find myself scrambling in the mornings so I tend to get the bulk of my work done at night. I'm the opposite. Although it's what is causing me to stay up late LOL I guess I need to figure out a schedule that works still!

Thanks for your comment :)

Burn-out is a real thing... I was lucky that I have started with my Hive journey almost from a "clean sheet"... It's not that it was great or something, but I was down... really down... Without knowing what to do, without schedule... just losing time on I don't know what...

When I joined SteemSavvy, I have started slowly doing posts 2-3 times per week... after that, I have raised that to 1 per day.... after that started another account where I have did other things, but also posts... then commenting... then engaging...

I want to say that I was doing things on my pace at that particular moment... I didn't jump all-in and do all things at the beginning... As you said that you will slowly remove some tasks, I was doing an opposite... I was slowly adding them...

And of course, it's important to get rid of the things that are time-consuming and didn't get you any satisfaction (financial, emotional, spiritual...)

It all about time management... and to switch gears while you are cruising through life... :)

Cheers!

Thanks for your comment, Zoltan. It's always fascinating to me how everyone takes their own path. To be clear, I don't know if I'll be slowly taking away tasks so much as just reorganizing a bit to now try to get so much done in the day. I'm going to set weekly targets to allow myself more time to reach them. The pace I am going at everyday is getting to me. I sometimes get too much in my own head when I'm making videos so maybe I didn't explain it right.

I really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions.

Burnout/demotivation can also come if you start doing things that your releases dopamine to your brain in an easier way than working does.
Great video.

Great points on this, everyone has a different burn out point. Some people can take on the World while others need to go slowly one step at a time. I guess the trick is to not overwhelm yourself and try to keep a degree of fun with it all. Focus on your strengths and not try to do everything all by yourself. It's always good to try and keep a positive attitude, negativity will bring you to burn out that much faster. Keep on crushing it.

Thanks Mike. That's true, everyone has different levels of what they can handle. I think a huge win is KNOWING what your limits are and push a little bit so you grow but not too much so you get overwhelmed. Easier said than done!

I myself have burn out everyday due to the fact that I don't understand what people are writing. I think you are brave, due to the fact that you are on video. I am chicken to take that step. My goals right now are to take care of my self by doing some exercise daily even if it is just a small amount two or three times daily and writing one email letter each day. Thanks so much for being you.

First, thank you for your kind words. It means a lot to me!

But I have to tell you...it takes me on average about 10 to 15 blooper takes before I get the video right and I am ALWAYS sweating at the end because of my nerves. It's really hard for me and it took me YEARS before I took the step.

It's really great that you have goals set. It doesn't matter how big or small they are in the beginning, at least in my opinion, it matters that you set them and reach them everyday. Consistently. Eventually those little goals will just become second nature and then you can start to set bigger goals. As long as you keep moving forward, you're winning. Everyone goes at their own pace.

Thank you for being you! :D
