We Had Neogalea Sunia For A Guest

"Ling, come on out! We have a guest!" the husband sounded anxious calling me from the outside of the house one afternoon. Whenever he mentions "guest" I know right away that he has seen something new, so I took the phone with me and went out, curious to see what it was.

And this was our visitor that day.

It's been a long while since we last saw insects, bugs, or even a moth in our yard so we were fascinated that this one showed up. The rule for me is to not touch. Just admire and take photos from a distance. So that's what we did.

Thankfully, it was holding onto a stick that was on the bodega's (storage) wall so we were able to tilt it for this photo opportunity. Still, it was challenging to take decent shots of it.

Anyhow, Google Lens identified it as "Lantana Stick Moth" or Neogalea Sunia. There was no way for me to confirm if it is correct, but we do have Lantana plants in the yard so it might be it. Although that was the first time for us to see one even when we have been in this place for 5 years now.

Its eyes are huge and it was scary looking at them through the phone's camera lens but the moth was quite interesting. Its body was over an inch long, maybe almost two from its head to the tip of its wings.

I now wish we poked it a bit and saw how its wing span was but we didn't want to bother it. I would say, we respect those that we see around here :)

One of its wings had a short slit and there was a tiny spider under it. Wicked, huh? Was it an accident that it was there? I wonder...

The back of the head looked as though it had two hidden eyes or something, lol! A bit creepy, I know.😅

We just left it there after the photoshoot. We found out that it was gone around evening time. It was probably just taking an afternoon rest because it was too hot during the day.

Meanwhile, it's been a busy day for us. My little guy and I have been out and about and offline most of the day so I'm hoping to catch up after this and when my fur baby sleeps. He has been under the weather since yesterday.

Until then, Happy Wednesday, everyone!

A baby spider living on a moth? That's new to me 😲

I hope your fur baby is better soon 🙏

Maybe it just crawled in there while the moth was resting, lol!

I hope so too, thank you and I greatly appreciate the curation :-)

Did you took permission from that insect before capturing photographs? If not then, you violated the rules and disturbed the privacy of it😅😅. !LOL
By the way, Nice photography.

What a cool visitor! It's been a while since I last saw a moth entered our home or just even outside.

It's rare here too. In the previous years, they seem to come around often.

Hahaha... A guest indeed! It knows it's a welcome guest and that could be the reason it's chilling out on that stick.

I swapped our double bed for a trampoline without telling my wife.
She really hit the roof!

Whenever something like this comes into the house, it's a lot of fun to watch because it's a different guest.
