Sleeping Unapologetically

avatar

We went back to the hospital yesterday late afternoon to fetch Mom and Dad and drive them to their home. The husband made dinner which we all enjoyed and chitchatted afterward. I was feeling a little tired around 8 pm so I excused myself and headed with my anyongi to our own abode in the family compound.

Although we had been there both in January and February, it felt like it had been a long while. Even my little guy took his time sniffing around like he always does whenever we go there. It's his way of familiarizing himself with the new scent and space. We went to bed around 9 pm, slept almost uninterrupted through the night, and found him snoozing on the bedroom mat in the morning, lol!

Anyway, we came back home to our lil kingdom after midday today. We were just settling in when the second rain of the year came. It was so soothing that it had us napping for more than 2 hours, lol! It sounds crazy but all we did these two days was sleep (more). Well, the body knew what it needed and we just listened to its signals.

It's an unwritten rule in our family (for the husband and I, that is) to give ourselves enough rest and care, hence we have our so-called lazy days where we just stay at home and be lazy, literally. We sleep unapologetically. No guilt feelings whatsoever.

We were not like this before. We used to work like there was no tomorrow, but we eventually recognized the importance of not compromising our well-being (although sometimes, we still do, especially when there are pressing things that concern our families). But yeah, that's what we do when we get overwhelmed and feel tired. It's the best way to recharge our souls and be ourselves again.

The truth is, we usually don't get exhausted from anything that we do every day but mostly from any sudden changes therein. And the good thing is that we both understand the need to take a breather. Also, when one forgets about what matters, the other steps in to remind us. At times, the husband encourages me to go offline and relax when he notices that I am getting sluggish. I, on the other hand, would pretend to get mad when he wouldn't give himself a break.

I know it can be hard to strike a balance in life, especially between work, family, and well-being, but it can be done when we are intentional about it. It gets easier when we share a common ground. I'm just glad that we have both in our household. It didn't just happen, of course. It took a process - reflection, realization, a shift in mindset, and then application.

Thank you and this is my response to the first question on this week's prompts by Tibaire.

Hehe. Sleeping like dead horse🤣. !LOL
Sleeping is a crime if you sleep more than normal sleep and you should feel regret otherwise what people say about it🤣. Most of the time I regret for oversleeping but I became shameless because it happens most of the time with me. 😅 It happened to you sometimes but it happened to me on a regular basis.

Who says how many hours is normal sleep? !LOL

It's no shame to take care of oneself by sleeping more, haha!

Yes, sometimes worldly chores make us so exhausted that we just want to lie down and sleep like you. It gives our body some rest.

I have never slept like this before. I want to do that 😄. Have a great day ahead and take care of yourself

I agree with you in regards to the sudden changes. Those are the things that exhaust me more. Leave me reeling and trying to maintain control. In the end, I’m physical, mentally and emotionally exhausted. Sleep is always the answer

It's surprising how our body and mind respond to sudden changes and the exhaustion is different. But yes, like you said, sleeping usually solves it. Just good it doesn't cost a ton to do it :)

That's true. Can't be all work. Some activities can wait and they don't go away when we take time to pause for a needed breather.

I hope the rain visits you soon :) It's cool here today. The rain was plenty yesterday afternoon and throughout the night.

Rest is very important, I think I've been taking my rest as a top priority lately as we only live once. As much as we work hard, there should be a balance.

There are so many times when I must have worked too hard at work and when I get home, the only thing I’d do is sleep like a log of wood
It happened to me yesterday too

I don't like lazy days, if it's a free day from the slavery of work, I find it a waste to spend it doing nothing

I understand. Used to be like that, didn't want to be idle but things changed these past few years. I just pause whenever I feel it's needed.

With our worlds being so fast paced anymore, it seems like self care is needing to be at the top of our priority list. I would love to be able to just give in and let go, but for now, unfortunately, that is not the case. It's worse on the days I work, because I go from being at work from around 8-ish to 5-ish or a little more, to home, computer and cook dinner and hurry up to do the small 'getting ready to go to work tomorrow' chores. Then I hop into bed for 5-6 hours sleep and do it all over again. Yes, I know I need to take some time out, and I'm working on it, but sometimes it's easier said than done.

You are very lucky your other half supports this and it's great that you support him. Thank you for sharing. Take care; enjoy the time and have a lovely day!

I understand. Things are a lot more challenging when one is working 8 or 9-5. The good thing is that you are aware of it and are working to give yourself some time out :)

Yeah, fortunately, we agree on such things and support each other. Thank you and wish you a wonderful day.

It's a good thing you took a breather, life can be overwhelming sometimes and if we don't listen to the signals our body is trying to pass across, it could react negatively.

A person should not get up until his sleep is complete, otherwise he will have a headache and feel tired.

Hola, sis! I'm glad your mom is home and I hope she gets better every day.

It is so true that we have to know how to disconnect and listen to the call of our bodies and minds. To have a good rest when we need it is essential for our well-being.

Cheers 🤗🤗-
