Quirino Bridge Stopover [SMASh 304]

avatar
(Edited)

We had several stopovers during our road trip and one of them was the Quirino Bridge in the municipality of Santa, Ilocos Sur. It was 9:30 in the morning and the sun was up, a gorgeous weather which made the striking orange color of the railings pop even more.

There were a few groups of fellow travelers when we pulled over. Thankfully, they were already done taking photographs so we didn't have to wait for our turn. And you know what I noticed apart from the bridge and the beautiful backdrops plus the other things in the surroundings?

The shadows of the railings, lol!

The day was bright so it allowed me to effortlessly take some cool ones. And it also helped that there weren't many vehicles passing by at some point and the other people stayed by the corner. I like how the shadows went narrow toward the farthest end of the bridge.

Seen in the distance (maybe half a kilometer away) is the 456-meter steel arch Old Bridge, also called Banaoang Bridge, an iconic structure that was said to have been built in the 1890s, had undergone some restoration and inaugurated in 1933.

The Abra mountain backdrop is simply beautiful. Accordingly, the bridge has just been a tourist attraction since 2007 when the new Quirino Bridge was built. Unfortunately, the middle portion of it got swept away and damaged by the raging waters last year during nasty Typhoon Egay. I think people can still go closer and check it out but we didn't because it means we need to walk :)

Some glimpses from across the road. Let's go and see the other side too, shall we?

The Lagben River is wide for sure. This photo was taken rather unmindfully but I'm glad to see that it included at least the bridge's shadow on the water.😅

And just to include a few more shots captured by the husband. Can't get enough of the shadows, lol! Also seen near the bridge is an Alpha Phi Omega marker.

The place is a perfect stopover not only to cool down the engines especially when traveling from afar, but also to enjoy the sights around.

Anyhow, this is my participation in the next round (304) of the Shadow Hunters challenge by Melinda.

All photos are my own.

Note: I posted a similar photograph here on New Year's Day. 12012024/19:26ph

They must have actually invested a lot in constructing this bridge

That's for sure and it's worth it as it connects two towns.

These pictures already prove that it was an interesting trip. I really love the sight. The experience looks more real with the way you present it than a report
