Curation Initiatives on Leo

avatar
(Edited)

Curation on Hive is something that we cannot entirely comprehend. And whether we admit it or not, we want eyes on our posts - and by 'eyes' I mean juicy [whale] upvotes. And why not, right? Because we spend time creating our content, using the applications built on this blockchain. With that, don't we deserve some love too?

Oh, if only it was that easy! (It might be for some)

The Leo Curation

Well, Leo is making content curation accessible to anyone - with some ground rules, of course! But don't worry, they are simple and easy to follow.

The basic filters or metrics for curation are the user's activity or involvement (engagement, use of the UI), LEO stakes, and content quality.

While content quality is subjective, there are a few basic things a post must at least satisfy: not AI-generated, well-formatted, good grammar, check out for spelling mistakes, properly sourced images, references provided where necessary, proper post tags etcetera.

In short, those who follow the good practices of writing or content creation. I refer you to this article on what a 'curatable' post is for the Leo curation initiatives.

Curation Methods

There are various methods employed in curating content created on the front end (Leo UI) or posted on the Leo community page.

❇️Stake-based Curation

Twice each day, @leo-curation creates a thread where users with LEO stakes can submit their Leo post link to be considered for curation. Depending on the content quality and the LEO staked by the user, the assigned curator may or may not curate every link submitted.

As the term suggests, curation is based on the user's Leo Power but does not disregard the post quality. Check this out for further details and information.

❇️Threads Outreach

The idea of this initiative is to encourage us to use threads, engage, and interact with each other. Unfortunately, most people seem to not get it and miss out on their chances because they only come to threads to create a three-thread with their post links on it and then disappear, or others just reply to two threads and then go "okay, I'm outta here!"

Do note that Threads curators will only endorse quality posts shared on threads by those who at least engage, use the UI, and comply with the basics of a curatable post.

If you are new, kindly check this guide on how to do it properly.

❇️Twitter Outreach

Similar to the Threads Outreach, users who properly share their Leo content on X (Twitter) and satisfy the basics of a curatable post also have the chance to get curated by the Leo trails.

All thanks to the two wonderful curators who are spending time and effort to find eligible Leo content being shared on the X platform.

For further mechanics, read the simple guidelines here.

❇️Organic Curation

There's something for everyone. So if you miss out on the above methods, this may come to your rescue - that is, if your content is of quality (again, this is subjective but has to satisfy the basics).

There are several curators (Leo Ambassadors) combing the Leo interface and the LeoFinance community page for quality content and endorsing them for curation.

Like all the other curation methods above, this is done manually.

❇️Leaderboards Curation

In case you didn't know, there's a Leaderboard in Leo where users are ranked based on certain metrics or categories (number of threads, threadstorms, comments made on posts on different communities, post engagement, and votes allocated) - all using the Leo UI.

The leaderboard resets every midnight UTC and the Top 5 users who rank in these categories will have their content on that day curated (depending on quality and effort).

  • The Top 5 Druids will get curation in the post they made on that day.
  • The Top 5 Rangers will get curation in some of the Threads they made that day.
  • The Top 5 Wizards will get curation on any content they made that day.
  • The Top 5 Bards will get curation in some of the Threadstorms they made that day.
  • The Top 5 Paladins will get curation in some of the comments they made during the day.

For further details, visit this article.

The Leo Interface

  • Leo UI (https://leofinance.io)

As we know, this on its production phase and there are still bugs and fixes being made. Users are encouraged to give feedback on what features they want added or if they encounter errors.

How? Just create a thread about it and use the hashtag #feedback. Khal mentioned he personally checks the threads with feedback tags, adds them to the features roadmap, and then the devs make the necessary fixes depending on the urgency.

  • Leo Labs (https://labs.leofinance.io)

This is a working UI where every new feature to the Leo interface is being tested live before they are deployed to the Leo UI.

I personally use this daily to publish my posts, engage, visit other people's content, upvote, etc. So far, I have not had any major issues.

Summary

The Leo curation initiatives are giving basically everyone a chance for their content to get upvoted by leo.voter and its trails. With all those in place and the basic ground rules transparently provided, we no longer have to wonder how to get noticed, we just have to make a bit more effort.

It is quite appalling though that while these are open for the taking, some people still miss out on the opportunities because they tend to ignore the basics or maybe they are simply not reading. Some may even try to game or abuse their chances but doing that would most likely get them ignored along the way.

The curation even extends to posts on other communities as long as they are published via the Leo UI, using certain tags, quality content, and the user's overall activities using the Leo interface.

Nothing comes super easy, but at least Leo is paving the way for users to get rewarded based on their merits.

All the best, everyone!

Aww, thank you, my fren. You are so kind. Leo frontend is open to any subject now unlike before when it was limited to Finance and crypto-related stuff (the LeoFinance community page on Hive remains for such topics).

And we can post to any community using the UI too :)

Some very important information about curation has been highlighted. Hopefully this will make it easier for all of us to know how to get nominated for Leo Curation and keep them in mind for future posts.

You're welcome, Amie. First, please let me know what you are using, is it a mobile phone or a pc?

I use mobile most of the time but PC a few times but I'd love to learn using mobile since it's always handy.

P.S
I can cast a vote for my favourite author on my mobile but can't do that on my P.C

On mobile, you can log on to Leo UI either on your phone browser or on the Keychain browser.

Regarding the voting, it's quite odd that you cannot upvote on pc. What is your method of logging in, is it Hivesigner, Keychain, or the Leo Auth?

And when you're on the UI, just be yourself and thread away :) There is no restriction on what you can share there. 😉

I think I haven't been curated by leo curation and I understand it because I am very less active in threads. For now I am one of those who go there, post something and leave.

Hopefully I can be active in threads more.

I see you there from time to time, Jen which is good :)

Curation is mostly on long-form content published using the Leo frontend.
