A Quick Look at Army of Crypto, A Role-playing, Story-based & Strategy Blockchain Game

(Edited)

Blockchain gaming or GameFi has been around for a few years now since Axie Infinity and is developing and growing rapidly. It's probably one of the easiest ways to introduce the Cryptoverse to game enthusiasts as these games give them the opportunity to earn or own crypto and NFTs while they play. The industry is valued at $4.9 billion in 2022 and is projected to reach $818.5 billion by 2032 according to research.¹

With that, we would likely be seeing more and more games coming out from different chains. One of those that I recently came across was the Army of Crypto, which LeoFinance has partnered with. You can check and join the community page here. Whilst I am not a gamer, my curiosity got me exploring the game and let me share some bits about it.

Brief Intro to Army of Crypto

Army of Crypto (AoC) is a non-fungible token (NFT)-powered trading card game, the very first NFT card game built on the Onixcoin blockchain. It's a role-playing, strategy game, one that challenges players to think ahead before placing their cards on the board to start a battle. They have a set of cards (packs) that players can purchase from the market. Check here for a preview of the card collections in the game.

The game is story based, with a very interesting premise of the world succumbing to the Great Fiat Depression where the government not wanting to lose control and power, initiated a 51% blockchain attack, hence the people need to fight back and the Great Crypto Battle ensued.

Well, that's just the brief background of the game story and it has a twist that you can read it here.

Interestingly, they used characters in the game based on real-world figures the likes of Elon Musk, Vitalik, Saylor, and McAffee.

The game launched in Alpha phase on the 4th of July and they have allotted a bounty pool to reward the testers.

To play, one must download the game packages, available for Windows, MacOS, Linux, and on Android. This is probably one of the not-so-attractive features of the game. Wonder if they will be able to have the game playable on web browsers.

Game Features

  • Strategy game

Quoting the words of David (consultant of Onixcoin blockchain) on the interactive AMA, Army of Crypto is a "chess match on steroids." Like chess, it's a game where players need to employ real strategy to outwit their opponents. This isn't a "pay to win" game.²

  • Betting Your NFTs

Players can use their NFTs to bet in a match. That is to say, they can lose their card to another player or vice versa.

  • Assembling an army of cards

Players can assemble their unique cards and place them as their soldiers on the battlefield.

  • Deck building

Accordingly, each card has its unique abilities and attributes, and players can build their own deck by trading or buying from the market.

  • Story-based

Players can explore different worlds and complete quests.³

  • Play-to-Earn

Winning players are rewarded with HERTZ, the game currency. This is used to upgrade AoC cards, buy AoC decks, purchase insurance or other in-game items, use to bet in a match among other things. HERTZ can be sold to ONIX (the currency of Onixcoin Blockchain). ONIX can be traded with USDT, BTC, or LTC on Xeggex.

Game Mechanics

The game mechanics has been discussed intensively by other creators in the community and here are a few reads to learn more:

Swap Facility for HIVE/HBD to Onixcoin

They have recently released a swap facility where Hive users can buy Onixcoin using HIVE or Hive Backed Dollars (HBD). You can check the step-by-step guide here.

This is quite a great start to the collaboration between LEO and AoC.

Personal Thoughts

Army of Crypto seems to be an interesting and exhilarating battle game. My first thought was it is a shooting game where players kill their opponents on the battlefield and win NFTs. It turned out, it's actually a TCG where players use their cards to battle against their opponent. This I believe will enhance one's ability to strategize in order to win, not only the current battle but all future ones.

The game rewards are in the form of HERTZ which can be traded to ONIX, the token of the Onixcoin Blockchain. These are pretty new to me so I will need to explore further to learn more about them.

The partnership between AoC and LeoFinance is an awesome collaboration that brings two blockchain communities together enabling users of each to learn and discover opportunities.

Axie Infinity

I heard about the game long ago but never played the game but once I was planning to play the game. I think I am a lazy person when it's to playing games.

To be honest I am still unable to understand how card game works and what kind of strategy I need to follow. For that reason, I can't play the Splintanland game also. I hope I will understand that kind of card game properly.

I can relate with you on the laziness to learn, lol! Whilst some people easily understand these types of game, others like you and me struggle. Although I believe we can learn them too when we put our minds into learning them.

You actually made me remember Axie Infinity. Back then, I really wanted to play it but I never had enough money for it before I began to hear of Splinterlands

It sounds like an interesting game with a lot of potential. I'm particularly interested in the fact that it's a strategy game, and that players can use their NFTs to bet in matches. This adds an element of excitement and risk to the game, and it could make for some very interesting gameplay.

That's true, the gameplay sounds exciting to me as well. Imagine betting one of your coveted NFTs not knowing you will win or lose it to your opponent. Must be nerve-wracking 😅

I put a lot of money into axieinfinity and now it's completely gone. Where do you think we can see the price go in the near future because I'm very worried myself.

I'm sorry to hear. That's why we need to diversify and take profits whenever we can. My sister also invested in the game. I have no clue as to where the prices will go to be honest.
