Hive Today - September 18th, 2020

animated banner.gif

Welcome back for another dose of weekly Hive news. This is the third edition of Hive Today. The goal here is to summarize development updates and news to provide a curated news digest for the Hive community. Hive Today is published every Saturday.

We now have a dBlog site for HiveToday which resides at hivetoday.xyz. The content there is pulled from Hive, so it's just another place to read the news. Kudos to @engrave for making it super easy to set up.

I’m doing my best to keep an eye on everything newsworthy and I know I’m still missing things. If there are specific stories or events you would like to see in the next edition please leave a comment. If you show me something new that I use next week, I'll add you as a beneficiary to next week's post.

Let's go!

Hive Chain News

Blocktrades’ weekly development post shared a summary of ongoing testing efforts for Hard Fork 24 (Hive version 1.24). Essentially, Hivemind testing continues. September 22nd is still the target date, but the date may shift if more time is needed to test and stabilize Hivemind. [1]

In unrelated news, Blocktrades sparked a debate by proposing a change to Hive’s curation rewards. The intent is to discourage auto-voting.). Since this topic is highly controversial, the post received more than 400 comments from Hive stakeholders. Join the debate here.

Hive-powered Games

Rising Star

This week @RisingStarGame rolled out a new mission type and mission requirements. New players will have to complete a certain number of each mission to progress through the game. [2] This Sunday, RisingStar will announce the game's BETA launch date.

Splinterlands

Splinterlands has an ever-growing list of blockchain integrations and interoperability. This week we learned of an integration with Wombat, an EOS gaming wallet. [3] On top of that, Splinterlands has partnered with Gala games. Gala is a blockchain gaming platform started by some folks from Zynga, the creators of FarmVille. Splinterlands is now visible on the Gala games platform, and soon GALA tokens will be accepted for Splinterlands purchases.

Another @Splinterlands season closed this week. Which means players unwrapped the usual cornucopia of season rewards. Immediately after, Phase 3 of the Collection Power rollout was deployed. Some tweaks to the league system and a new league leaderboard and rewards system were launched. [4]

Hive-powered dApps and Tribes

BEECHAT

This week, a new service called BEECHAT was unveiled. This powers NFTShowroom’s new direct messaging feature. BEECHAT is designed by @aggroed and @reazuliqbal for Hive dApps to integrate and add chat features. For a while, Hivers have complained about the lack of chat support in apps, and BEECHAT could potentially solve the problem for good. [5]

D.Buzz

Hive’s premier micro-blogging site, called @dbuzz, is getting ready launch version 3.0. Anyone can try the new version at D.Buzz Version 3.0 is a major upgrade which includes: a UI overhaul, new color themes, Hive Keychain login, posting key login, and direct image upload functionality. [6]

HiveGuide

This week, @jongolson and @blainjones of the Click Track Profile affiliate marketing community launched a new gamified onboarding site called HiveGuide. This site walks new users through the basics of using Hive blockchain and dApps. Students advance through several videos which explain concepts in detail. [7]

Lensy

If you haven’t heard of Lensy yet, it’s probably because it’s only a month old. @Lensy is a Hive-powered marketplace for tokenized photographs (NFTs). Photographers can use Lensy to mint NFTs for their work, and list them for sale. Collectors can purchase these NFTs with Hive. An update for Lensy was deployed this week, which added some new categories for listings, new search features to help users find what they want, and unlockable attachments for NFT purchases. [8]

LeoFinance

This week we saw a number of announcements from @LeoFinance. First, a new landing page was revealed, which would greet new investors and bloggers expected to arrive after the wLEO launch. [9] Second, the user count and ad revenue metrics on LeoFinance.io hit an all time high. [10] Third, the imminent launch of wLEO (wrapped Leo ETH token) was delayed due to the $UNI airdrop congestion, dubbed “CryptoKitties 2.0”. [11] And last, the LEO team shared updates on the development of their rebuilt UI, which is available in Beta at beta.LeoFinance.io. [12]

NFTShowroom

@NFTShowroom also continues to grow. Like Lensy, it’s a marketplace for NFTs, but unlike Lensy, it’s tailored for crypto artists and crypto art collectors. NFTShowroom also announced updates this week. It includes badges on the PeakD blogging site which are displayed on verified artists’ profiles. The NFTShowroom site also added built-in direct messaging in addition to minor UI improvements and bug fixes. [13]

Starting a website is a cool idea! It's good that all info is in one place!

I just saw that Nathan organized MeetUp today in England... It would be nice to see info about those events, just that this virus thing comes to its end...

Thanks for collecting this news during the week!

Nice job on the updates, @hivetoday! It was especially nice to see your feature on the Hive Guide from Click Track Profit's Jon Olson and Blain Jones. There is alot to explore here and I have reblogged it to come back and read it more thoroughly.

Some great work here and a condensed version of events are always necessary!

Could the @combination charity weekly draw also be mentioned here?

Please advise!
