My Last Day As A College Lecturer

It's all over. On Friday I taught my very last class at a college in Hiroshima where I have taught for twenty years. It was a bitter-sweet moment, especially because the bunch of students who posed with me at the end of class have been some of the liveliest and most fun students I've ever taught at that college.

For those students, their third year is coming to an end, and even if I had accepted the classes I was offered for the next academic year, I would not be teaching them again as they have taken all my classes and will be busily working on their graduation theses.

For me, the challenge is to build my online business to replace - and more - the income I would have earned at the college. I am hoping that the free time I gain by not taking on any more college classes will enable me to do what it takes to grow my online business.

I will continue to teach at a vocational college, and have some private students and community centre classes, but I will be on a much lighter schedule from April.

If all goes well, I will have taken a big step towards becoming a "digital nomad" who is not bound to any specific location by the requirements of work.

Good luck to my students as they prepare to enter their fourth year! Thanks for the good times we had in class over the last three years.
