Why Steemit Has More Exposure Compared to Hive

avatar

Hey folks.

I suggest you to search the words "web3 social media" in Google search engine, you will come across different articles talking multiple web3 social media platforms.

I tried searching in Google with the same keywords and found different articles mentioning different web3 social media platforms but it was sort of surprising for me finding Steemit being mentioned in most or probably all of the articles as a web3 social media platform with some other web3 social media platforms but I couldn't find Hive.

And I would suggest you to also check it out.

The articles you may get are the ones that are ranked in top on Google first page meaning that Hive might be missing some good exposure as you might not find or might hardly find Hive being mentioned with other web3 social media platforms.

For me, the surprising thing is that I saw Steemit among others but not Hive. If you compare Steemit to Hive I guess Hive have an upper hand and it could be visible when you visit Steemit website. I don't think posts that are in trending on Steemit are good than Hive. To me posts on Hive trending page are way better.

I don't know if Steemit has any dapps but Hive has multiple dapps. Hive has second layer tokens, however I think Steemit doesn't have second layer tokens.

Why is Then Hive Behind Steemit?

To me, the answer is traffic.

According to the data by Similarweb, the global rank of Steemit is #20,133.

Total Visits Last 3 Months for Steemit:

Similarweb

The traffic is in millions.

While the global rank of Hive is #67,863.

Now, I guess you can now better understand where Steemit is beating Hive.

What Hive Needs?

I guess Hive needs to work on marketing. Hive I believe is an undervalued platform but the platform lacks a good exposure and for exposure efforts are required to promote the platform to the rest of the crypto world and internet users in general.

In my opinion, Hive needs a dedicated team that could work on its promotion and I don't think Hive may lack this talent. However, Hive can hire someone for this job.

One of the issue with Hive may also be the strict rules by some of the users with big Hive Power downvoting users which sort of create frustration in them. This is something that may make them leave the platform and impact other users as well seeing this.

What are your thoughts?

No doubt, downvotes is a healthy thing to the ecosystem.

Steemit is full of shit.
How much you can get there if you can not read Korean,Japanese, Chinese?

Just my 2 satoshis...

Hive as a blockchain has many platforms that might be difficult to explain as 'one solid thing'. There's the Blog aspect, the Communities, Microblogs, Video services, Livestreaming, Photography, and much more. As participants in the blockchain we are all able to 'promote' Hive with referrals and to showcase what aspect of the blockchain we use and what it means to be apart of this ecosystem.

Introducing others to Hive shouldn't be a mass induction but instead a quality establishment of what participating on the Hive Blockchain could mean to an individual. This post has great information and could be a point of introduction to others who are unfamiliar with the space/concept.

Thank you for bringing up your thoughts and concerns! It's important that this subject be discussed frequently and often to generate new ideas to introduce more quality participants onto the Hive Ecosystem.

You showed results for hive.blog so I'm sure you know your post is on hive.blog.

Are you aware all three links above are also Hive?

Hmm interesting take.
But will it mean the other frontends are sort of taking the traffic away from Hive.blog hurting the cause?

Not all traffic on Hive goes through Hive.blog. There are people using Hive that don't even touch the social frontends.

Hive is a blockchain. That's all. Meanwhile there are several apps built on Hive. Several frontends. Your post even uses some of the tags. LEO, Neoxian, Palnet. Last I checked they all had their own frontends.

"Hurting the cause"? I think you're missing the point. That's common though. For some strange reason people think Hive.blog is Hive. Yet it's one of the frontends with the least amount of features. Ever heard of Splinterlands or 3speak? Those are on Hive too...

PeakD and Ecency are used far more than hive.blog. They all tap into Hive the same way.

It shows more traffic on Peakd than Hive.blog but I believe it still is not able to surpass Steemit's traffic. Moreover, don't you think it is dividing Hive's main frontend's power?

A scattered consumer base is not efficient. However, it's more efficient to market each offering individually than it is to market Hive. You mentioned googling Hive for example. Googling Peakd, Ecency, Leofinance, Splinterlands, 3speak and the rest of this long list is googling Hive indirectly. Hive isn't a brand really. Brands exist on Hive. It's also decentralized. So if one site goes down you can just use a different one. If they all go down you can just make another one and everything is still there. Apparently "web3" is a bit different than what people are used to.

People say,"Hive should do this" and "Hive should do that" but they're quite literally talking to an inanimate object.

The traffic here I believe is only for hive.blog it doesn't take into account other frontend which are used like inleo.io or peakds or even splinterlands if you want to take gaming into account.

You do know that Hive is a hardfork from Steem, right?

So, Steem came first and had a huge SEO on Google before there was a hostile takeover. This lead to a hardfork which split the community.

Most of the community shifted to Hive.
Splinterlands was once known as Steem Monsters and shift to Hive exclusively too.

I have accounts on both but I am locked out of Steem and I refuse to jump through hops to get back what was stolen from me.

There are plenty of advertising campaigns and community activities and sponsorships from the Hive community.

It will take a while for Hive to generate a good SEO on Google again, possibly years.

But trust always takes time.

You are correct, we need to show more proof of concept, usecase and that requires showing that we can make a decent living with Hive.

marketing is super important. my idea is to become an ambassador yourself to promote your favorite projects and communities in web3 to web2 and dont hire anyone unless you have the funding for it yourself. this way you are always improving yourself and building the blockchain space :)
