Nigerian SEC Chief to Meet Crypto Exchanges

Reportedly, a round table to be convened on May 6th by the Blockchain Industry Coordinating Committee of Nigeria (BICCoN) between the new director general of the Nigerian Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and local and international crypto exchanges to have a discussion and try to find consensus on crypto's status in the country.

According to reports, Lucky Uwakwe, the chair of BICCoN, announced that all wallet providers, exchange operators of digital assets, other virtual asset service providers (VASPs), and pertinent industry associations and bodies are welcome to attend the meeting in order to discuss pertinent issues and map out a progressive path for cryptocurrency regulations in Nigeria.

According to Uwakwe the invitation for the virtual meeting is being convened by the new director general of SEC, Emomotimi Agama. The aim of Agama is to engage with the important stakeholders in the blockchain and crypto ecosystem to address at the challenges related to regulation and opportunities through a mutual dialogue.

Agama is said to be known for his wealth of experience in blockchain and the capital market.

The meeting will different players in the industry to present their perspectives on the current state of crypto in the country, according to Uwakwe.

Uwakwe was hopefull that the meeting could ignite the right kind of change that would be in favor of all the stakeholders in the crypto industry in Nigeria and internationally.
