Stress and Self-Care in Today's Hectic World

The way we are living in the current stressful situations, it's very important to take care of our body and soul. Stressful conditions have become a part of our lives. Every person is affected by the hectic lifestyle we are living. There are many methods to take care of our body and soul, the two main ones being healthy food and physical exercises.

The influence of others in our life and the thought of what others will think of us create a big gap between what we want and what we are doing. Self-care or self-love, or I would say the freedom to do what we want, is missing in our lives. We are continually running and are part of this race which will never end. We run to achieve one milestone, and before that, the other milestone is already waiting for us. This is a never-ending process which creates both good and bad effects on us and our family. This may help us in professional progress, but when we start prioritizing profession over family, then conflicts start between us and our family.


When I started my job and was working on one assignment that was very important to me as the outcome from that assignment only reflected in my future career. I was working very hard and even staying back to complete the job, and I completed it on time. I was always thinking that once I complete it, I will get some time to spend with family and will also leave the office on time. But to be honest, the desire of leaving on time never happened, and before completing the first assignment, other work was given to me. This is normal in Indian culture.

There was one time when I was too stressed because of the workload in the office, and this started affecting my health. The stress led to high blood pressure, and this also caused continuous headaches. I consulted the doctor, and his first advice was that if I love myself, then I must draw a line between office and personal life. He suggested me to walk every day and do some breathing exercises to reduce the stress level. I must say those were very effective, and yoga helped me a lot to control the irregularities in blood pressure.


The environment in which we work affects a lot on our health. The environment means the work environment as well as the surrounding weather and conditions. I would like to share an incident that happened two days ago in the office. The high workload is common, as I mentioned above, in India. My manager was creating pressure on me to complete some work and was not providing sufficient resources to complete it. Because of this work pressure, I was feeling headaches again. For a full day, I was suffering from headaches, and when I reached home, the situation was still the same. Normally, a cup of tea gives relief, but this time this trick also did not work. Before going to bed, my kid asked me to play one board game, Ludo. I was not able to say no, even though I was not feeling well. I was thinking that because of the pain, I would not be able to concentrate on the game, but to its opposite, I got involved in the game so much that I forgot the headaches. And when we completed the game, I realized there was no pain at all. I guess the fun time with family relieved me from the all-day stress.


Music is another way to reduce stress and give relief to the body and mind. Yoga is also one exercise which is very effective in reducing mental stress and giving flexibility to the body. I advise giving 30 minutes daily for our body.

You’re right, We live in a stressful world, and many people don't have time for themselves. Yoga helps me. Every morning, I do 10 minutes of yoga, and it helps me start my day.

I agree with you, it's a universal problem! And as you say: Spending time with your family is one of the most important things you can do to manage stress. Personally, I see our health and well-being as a priority in our lives.
