Evolution of Cartoons and its Impact on Kids

All kids love cartoons and animations. When I was a kid, cartoons were only telecast for a limited time. The concept of cable or dish TV did not even exist, and there were only two channels widely broadcasted. One was the national TV channel, and the other was DD Metro. On DD Metro, different cartoon shows were telecasted for one hour. I still remember that from 4 PM to 5 PM was the time for cartoons. The variety was also not much, and two clubs were leading the industry: the world-renowned Disney and Panda. I haven't even seen the Panda Club nowadays. Every day of the week was dedicated to one particular show. Flash Gordon, Mickey Mouse, Chip and Dale, He-Man, DuckTales, Tom & Jerry are some I can remember now. All of them were my favorites. We were supposed to complete our homework before the telecast, and then we were free to watch. Most of them were not in our native language, but we still watched them and enjoyed. Somehow they helped in improving our language skills also.

Nowadays, the industry has changed a lot. The 2D cartoons have been upgraded to 3D versions, and the graphics and colors have also improved a lot. The kids have dedicated cartoon channels that telecast cartoons the whole day, which was not available for us. I remember when I first came to know about the cartoon channel; I was amazed that there is one dedicated channel for this stream.
As I mentioned, the industry has changed a lot, and they are developing as per the needs of today's generation. Cartoons are not just for kids anymore; animation and cartoons are for adults also. My kid is 6 years old, and she loves to watch Peppa Pig, which I didn't even know existed before.

Kids get influenced very fast by what they watch. It affects their nature and their way of living. Many of you must have observed the same. So it's very important to observe what the kids are watching. More violent content and vulgar content are not advisable for kids. But sometimes those influences may be used to instill good habits in kids. For example, my kid did not like to eat some specific food items. But when she saw her favorite character in a cartoon eating similar items, she started liking the same.

One big disadvantage of watching cartoons is addiction. Kids become addicted, and they start wasting their time watching those cartoons. Even the time they are supposed to go outside the home to play, which is essential for their physical, mental, and social health, they start avoiding. Online content makes the content available to them 24 hours a day, and they always want to be immersed in it.

The topic undoubtedly reminds me of my childhood, and we loved to watch those shows. But at that time, we were punctual, and resources were also limited. But in today's time, kids are much more sensitive, and they need more attention. I am not saying that watching TV or cartoons is a bad habit, but anything in excess is bad. Kids are a clean slate, and we as parents or guardians must watch them and guide them. Entertainment is important part but time management in kid's life.
