Balancing Life: The Importance of Sleep in Our Daily Routine

Hello all #LEO Lovers and #Hive Friends

When someone sleeps more, we usually call them lazy. Getting up in the morning and getting out of bed is a big task for me, and getting our kid out of bed is a big task for my wife. Most of the time during the day we are awake, but at night we fall asleep, and it's a natural clock in our brain set by our body and nature. Sleep is as important as other aspects of our lives. Getting less sleep over a long time for any reason is bad for health, and if it does not affect immediately, the effects will indirectly reflect in the body.

We have 24 hours in a day, and in my opinion, we must divide it into three parts. Each part consists of 8 hours and must be dedicated to sleep, work, and remaining activities. I always try to get 8 hours of sleep, but unfortunately, most of the time, I end up with seven hours. I usually go to bed between 11 PM and midnight and get up at seven o'clock. My wife always insists that I sleep by 11, and I agree with her, but for some reasons, I am not able to follow it. This is the routine during weekdays, but on weekends or holidays the pattern changes as I love to watch some movies before sleep and love to sleep more by extending the wakeup time. I usually get up after 8 only on Sundays. I am not a person who sleeps during the daytime. Actually, during my childhood, whenever I slept in the daytime, I did not get good sleep at night. I was not able to get to sleep on my normal days; shortly, the sleep time extended by 2 to 3 hours, so I got into the habit of not sleeping during the daytime. During my college time, I slept for only 6 hours before exams as I spent more time studying.

Recently, I watched a movie named 'Awake.' I mention the movie because the theme of the movie is similar to the topic of this post. The name itself gives you a hint. The movie is about the scenario when all mankind lost the ability to sleep (except a few) and all electronics stopped working. The movie highlights the dangerous situation that arises because of the non-sleeping of humans. The story follows a mother, who discovered that her young daughter is one of the few who can still fall asleep. There was chaos all around due to sleep deprivation, and the mother must protect her daughter from the danger as many desperate individuals are willing to do anything to obtain her sleep ability. Throughout the movie, the mother tries to protect her girl even though she herself is struggling to keep herself in stable condition without sleep. When a person does not sleep for a long time, it can significantly affect the body, mentally as well as physically. The cognitive functions like concentration, decision-making, memory, and reaction time can be severely impaired. The brain's ability to process information slows down significantly, increasing the risk of mistakes. Irritation and mood swings are other effects. People find it difficult to judge reality, and hallucinations and disorientation are some more bad effects on the body.
