Beyond Degrees: Navigating the Untaught Path to Financial Prosperity

Ever wonder why a lot of graduates are not financially buoyant after spending the number of years they spent in school, this is because a lot of them went to school with the mentality that going to school was their sure ticket to financial freedom, this was true in the past when we had less educated people, and the labor market wasn't so congested, but the reverse is the case now if you ask most undergraduates now what their plan is after school, what you would most likely hear is to get a good job, they finish and then realize that the jobs are now no longer available as it used to before, and this has left so many jobless, what they fail to realize is that what we mostly need to become financially buoyant are not from the certificate we earn, the school teaches us to be literate, not rich, and in this post, I'll be sharing with us what our school didn't teach us to be wealthy.

1 What value are you bringing

Even the blind knows the days that value pays more than your certificate, ever wonder why an illiterate businessman is more wealthy than most BSC graduate before I continue, I want to applaud you for the sacrifice and time you spent in school, of course, it isn't wasted, but when it comes to being financially capable and free like most of us desire, your certificate is not the sure ticket to that, rather the value you offer, what are people looking forward to get from you? Are they also coming back to get more, knowing that the more value you render to an increasing number of people, the more your wealth increases, and that increases your wealth over time.

2 Finance Education

Our school doesn't teach us real and practical financial concepts, yes, we did lots of mathematics, calculus, etc but how are you applying them to your day-to-day financial struggle, some finance terms, such as budgeting, saving, investment, etc we all want to make money right, next is spend to satisfy our need and some others save, but what about growing your money, that is what separates the wealthy from the poor, most educated fellows equates their wealth to their income which depreciate in value, the reason why when they lost that same job, they go back to square one starting afresh again, even our very certificate also depreciates, the very reason we keep going back to get an upgrade. A rich man's net worth is based on the assets they've spent years growing and not the cash they readily have at hand, even if they run out of cash, they are still rich because their asset grows in value, while we mostly see money as a tool to satisfy our need, want and gain instant gratification, the rich see money as a tool to grow more.

3 Our school teaches competition instead of cooperation

There is always a common fan war in my country, take Davido vs Wizkid for instance, the school system is designed in such a way that makes us feel we are supposed to compete with others rather than join hands as a team to build wealth, by collaborating with others, you get to learn new ideas, skills, and knowledge which you can add to build yourself up the more, there is not a law for you to be successful single-handedly, getting help from others while going up the ladder can make it easier and more time efficient for you, sometimes the celebrities we argue about are using us as a concept to grow their wealth the more, think about that carefully and choose how you spend your time.

4 Know your numbers right

While most educated people are more focused on producing value without considering numbers, the rich mostly look towards the number of people they are sending value to, there is power in numbers if you play it right, ever wonder why a musician who was nobody few months ago suddenly releases a hit track with million views which change his entire story, and we have some school teachers who have taught for years yet they can't be considered as average talk more of rich, if you aim to be wealthy, you have to also consider reaching more numbers, the internet has helped so much in this aspect because of the numbers of people you can reach in just few seconds, a school teacher for instance can render her teaching services beyond the classroom, by giving tutorials online, therefore reaching a wider audience, and therefore increasing income.

5 Education doesn't stop after you acquire your certificate.

Most educated people hold much value to their certificate feeling they've arrived at their destination, not knowing that is when the real journey begins, education doesn't stop after you've left the four walls of the classroom, you learn every day, new concept and ideas come up in this fast-moving world of technology, decades ago, there was nothing like web3 and cryptocurrency but look us today, most people have amassed so much wealth since the introduction of cryptocurrency, and only those who decide to continue learning rather than feel comfortable with the certificate they've achieved through their years of studies are the ones enjoying the numerous benefits web3 has to offer, and the good thing is that we continue learning and faced with new opportunities daily.

Conclusion

The realization that our education system alone may not secure financial freedom makes it crucial for us to have a shift in mindset. While formal education provides a foundation, the true key to prosperity lies in the value we bring, practical financial education and thinking like the wealthy that money is meant to grow and not always for instant gratification, also collaboration over competition, understanding the power of numbers, and a perpetual commitment to learning beyond the classroom. It's time to recognize that wealth is built on continuous growth, adaptability, and the ability to offer valuable solutions to an ever-evolving world.

I agree with you. The school system only teaches us to be literate, not rich. Now that you mention it, it is not possible for one to grow or get far ahead without cooperation and collaboration. Instead of teaching us how to collaborate with one another, the school system teaches us to compete.

It's almost like the system is rigged against our success.
Amazing article.

I would suggest, though, that you download QuillBot or Grammarly. These apps help us punctuate our work and space it out for easier comprehension.

Welldone!

Your points are valid. These are some of the reasons why some don't even believe in going further in their education.

I wish many people learn to not only save but also invest.

Thank you for sharing.

This is one of the reasons people say school is a scam but it is not. Just like you said, school teaches a student how to understand and interpret knowledge, it is left for such student to figure out how to apply it.

One of the reasons why graduates are often suffering from finance problems is because while they were in school they never thought of what they will do with their lives when they eventually graduate.

I aint gonna lie despite he fact that going to school doesn't make you rich, it builds up awareness in life, i mean the difference is clear between an educated person and non, going to school makes one stands out can face and talk to anyone without fear, it gives confidence and bold.

Anyways the surest thing is just package using the education learnt to think outside the box.
