The Flicker Haven Farm Files-Cut And Dried

Well, I am definitely in the thick of it. It being cutting and hanging flowers to dry. The dried flower production project has definitely been fruitful, it seems like every time I turn around I have a bunch of blooms to cut, bundle, and hang.

But like I would complain about having flowers around to enjoy! NAY! My entire being gets all giggly and elated whenever I stroll out to the flower beds for a gander at what's ready to harvest.

The picture above is a couple of starflower blooms that have gone to seed. I can't wait to utilize them in some wreaths and crafting arrangements. They have such great structure and delicacy. They also make me feel a bit proud of myself as I successfully started them from seed. I have never grown them before.

Something I have grown before is amaranth. Well, I have grown burgundy amaranth in years past, but this year I grew all the amaranth. Love Lies Bleeding, Hot Biscuits, and others all are blowing up around the beds, and I have to say they are just visually splendid!

A few months ago I also did an impulsive and out of character seed purchase, and bought some dahlia seeds on a whim. Dahlias don't grow true to seed. What that means is you can save seed off of a dahlia and get a myriad of different types of flowers. That's why dahlia tubers are such a thing, it's the only way to get exactly what you want.

Well, I love random surprises, so I went ahead and started a whole package of dahlia seed a couple of months ago, and thanks to the unseasonably early warm weather we had, I already have my first dahlia bloom!

Such a lovely little yellow beauty!!

I am so, so excited to see what other dahlia color surprises await me!

We've also been up to our armpits in sunflowers. One of the branching variety transplants that my friend brought over and I have been tending has bloomed this week, and I have to say I am in love with the burnt orange halo surrounding the center.

The same friend is coming into possession of a couple of wreath machines, so all of my labors are going to pay off in the form of some really beautiful, every lasting dried wreaths. This fall is going to be so much fun!

Because as it stands I have tons and tons of yarrow, lavender, sunflowers, strawflowers, starflowers, statice, marigolds, calendula, and grasses galore drying out in the barn, with lots and lots more to come.

The dried cut flower project has been anything but disappointing. My chlorophyll stained fingers can't wait to craft all the things out of the fruits of my labor!😊

And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's anything but well-rooted and lacking in fragrance iPhone. The text divider image was made in Canva.

Up to your armpits in sunflowers isn't that much of a measurement.

Runs away quickly, taking advantage of my tall person stride

Just because you are tall doesn't mean you have speed.

Just sayin....
