Week through Adrian's Lenses (21-27 August 2023)

Let's see what we have for this week's roundup.

Week on Hive

HBD Savings APR Debate

In the second part of the week, a few trustworthy consensus witnesses started to signal a reduction of the APR for HBD in savings. That stirred a debate on the opportunity and timing of the action. There were positions on both sides of the debate, obviously, otherwise, it wouldn't be a debate.

I believe many witnesses are far too quiet in what should be a normal communication with the community, so let's expect (and why not, demand) for them to publish regular updates using their witness tag or in another way that is widely accessible to Hive stakeholders.

New API for Hive

As the discussion on the APR for HBD in savings gained momentum, maybe we should have taken the time to reflect on a post published this week by Blocktrades, which shows that a team does a terrific job at the core level.

In his post, Dan describes the benefits of HAF API compared to HiveD API and even to Hivemind. It's a long article, but for anyone technically inclined it's worth reading.

Leo Updates

Well, with the expected rebranding, I won't call them Leofinance anymore, but Leo and the Leo team. Until we have something official.

LeoCache is something the Leo team has been working on for a long time. That allows, among other things, full-text searching and full indexing all the way to the launch of Threads and even to the birth of Hive for long-form content (not yet implemented).

LeoCache has been publicly tested on the Labs version of the website, where new updates are initially released before being rolled out on the main website.

The Leo team also embarked on a week-long promotion of their DHF proposal, detailing various aspects of their plan every single day. Here are the posts published so far:

HiveCast Tuner DHF Proposal

I don't know enough about the domain to have a qualified opinion, but if you are streaming, podcasting, etc. check out this proposal and see if it's worth the vote. And obviously, what is the benefit to Hive, since DHF would be funding it...

Quick Updates

HiveLive Universe is a collection of tools developed by @bambukah, now found in one place. Details from the author can be found here.

In an update from this week, Terracore announced the addition of leaderboard rewards.

Life of Hive

More from HiveSucre

This is a very detailed post on how new users are onboarded to HiveSucre and how they receive consulting on using the QR functionality of the Keychain app.

Ecoinstant interviewed at CriptoLatinFest

On top of the positive energy he usually spreads around, I found it funny that the interview started in English, and at some point - maybe dissatisfied by the translation - Alex started to talk in Spanish. :)

Playing Fashion Show at the English Class in Thailand

I wanted to include this post because you don't see every day something like this on Hive, and they are from another country I haven't covered yet in this section of the weekly roundup. I wonder if it's more than the teacher who is on Hive...

Week in the Crypto World

USDC Integrated into Shopify via Solana Pay

That's huge news for both USDC, which was in freefall lately compared to USDT in market cap, and for Solana, for integrating Shopify into their ecosystem. Of course, Shopify makes its entrance into the crypto market (particularly the stablecoins part of the market), so that's not a small deal for them either. Here are more details.

El Salvador - Bitcoin is only for the "elite"

Bitcoin's legal tender experiment in El Salvador may have already failed if what this Salvadorean said on Reddit reflects the truth in the country. Someone shared this and I believe it's worth including in this roundup.

It's very likely most of us will feel the same way as this Salvadorean a few years down the road, that bitcoin is for the elite. At most, we will use the lightning network, which is anything but bitcoin. I guess the lightning network (non-caps on purpose) will be known as the poor man's bitcoin.

Thanks for the information
I see so many people who are not cool with the reduction of HBD APR

Yeah, probably there are... Nothing announced it, nor is it necessary now, at the tail end of a tiring bear market for many.

The entire debate over HBD interest is quite interesting. I wonder where things will go and I will wait a bit more to see how witnesses react before I modify my own votes.

I stopped following the discussions for now. I do follow if witnesses make some changes or announcements though.

Thank you @gadrian for the updates this week on Hive! They are very positive except for El Salvador. They will have to start using HBD there. The consensus witnesses sound very important and should communicate more with the community!
Have a great new week ahead. I will try to check out the links you posted. Barb 👍 ✨😊 ✨ !BBH !CTP

Oh well, El Salvador was kind of expected to turn out this way. I saw a video some time ago from someone who went to El Salvador to see how bitcoin adoption is going. Although he was trying to point out the positive signs too, it was clear where things were heading even back then.

HBD? If the general population is still receptive to crypto... Although there are many other places in the world where we should try first, no need to invade bitcoin's territory. :)

Thank you @gadrian that makes sense. I don't know alot about El Salvador but I think it's not the best place to be or go. I think I remember reading very scary things happening in El Salvador for years. Have a great rest of the week. !BBH !CTP 🌟😊

I am also against the deduction of the APR. Let's see how it goes.

Hmm, this issue may have grown bigger than it deserves to. Other than the really bad timing, I don't see an issue either way. Keep it or slowly lower it (but not excessively), it's fine with me, as long as the moment is better chosen. As I mentioned in my previous post, I would have chosen the bull market, but of course, we'll have some time to wait for that.
