D.Buzz Is Running Out of Resource Credits

avatar

As I was doing my curation today, I noticed this buzz from @dbuzz:

So, their onboarding service is currently offline because they don't have enough RCs, and I assume they have started to run out of account creation tokens too.

We don't have recent daily Hive stats from @arcange, but from the last ones we have back from the end of January, DBuzz was either the first or second onboarder, either on top or below INLEO. I don't know what the retention rate is for each of them, but right now, we are talking about the first step, bringing someone over. And if you don't have account creation tokens (claimable with RCs), you can't create "free" accounts on Hive.

The two projects, INLEO and DBuzz have different strategies for getting enough account creation tokens.

INLEO offers tiered delegation rewards but for HP, not for RCs, which also allows them to dispense votes and the delegators lose the curation rewards associated with the delegated HP, so compensation is in order.

DBuzz needs and politely asks for some RC delegations, which for most people are in excess anyway.

Here's the situation with their RCs right now (the orange progress bar, the number is what I delegated to them):

Note that the RC level is normally quite low when you claim account creation tokens. It happens to me too. But if they also have a low number of account creation tokens, that disrupts the free onboarding process. And I assume they do, otherwise they wouldn't have put their service on halt.

They may also have constraints if they need their own RCs to delegate to newcomers for a better experience. I see they have delegated RCs to over 1,000 accounts.

Of course, ideally, as they grow and onboard more people they should make sure they have the necessary RCs for everything they need. But sometimes bottlenecks appear and it would be a shame to have another onboarding bottleneck on Hive these days, especially as they showed they can bring in enough people and probably more with the bull market excitement.

I kind of take this as a +

DBuzz is clearly doing something right! It's a good problem to have. I haven't seen anything about a token. Not sure how they'll fix this. DHF should be use to help out onboarding at these times. DHF can fund any Dapp that run out of RC to pay for RC delegation.

I agree it's a great problem to have. Where I disagree is that DHF should get involved with this. There are plenty of users who don't use even a fraction of their RCs. They can help instead of the DHF.

I think their are some service issues. That's why they are informing and I also have received such kind of message.

They say in the post why they have this issue. Because they run low on RCs.

I remember talking to Jacuzzi back when he was working with them about a BUZZ token, but it never seemed to happened. It would be a great way to reward people for delegation like INLEO does for the LEO token and @hivelist does with the COM token.

Yeah, they seem to have opted to not have a token so far. Maybe they are waiting for a different option than HE. Or maybe they don't want a token at all.

Incentivizing definitely works, but compared to INLEO which takes in HP delegations with the associated rewards, I see DBUZZ is focusing on RC delegations, which have fewer benefits for a regular user, but higher for a platform.

HP delegation gives the best of both worlds. RC delegations are not talked about enough and are confusing for many users and will let them contribute but not give up their voting stake.

I agree that probably many users confuse the roles of HP and RC delegations. I tried to shed some light on that in the past when they were more in the spotlight and created some posts explaining the differences between the two.

It may be a bug or something because this is quite strange

It's not strange at all. It can happen for a platform to run out of RCs or account creation tokens when onboarding people. It happened to Splinterlands when they were booming in 2021. They decided to pay for the creation of Hive accounts at the time (3 HIVE each) from their revenue from selling spellbooks.

These are some services issues which I strongly believe will be settle as soon as possible

They can be resolved quite easily with some bigger RC delegations, if Hive shareholders think it's worth it.

I guess it's good if they run out of resources? Meaning many people joining hive?

Well, yeah. But they need more RCs so they can onboard as many as they can. Of course, retention matters. It doesn't help if from 100 onboarded only 5 remain active. So, I hope they have at least an average retention rate at the Hive ecosystem level.

You raised retention, and I am curious about that as well. Do they take back RC that they delegated to dormant accounts? It would be great if the delegated RC expires after two months or something, so they don't easily run out. If the accounts are posting, they will eventually increase the HP and RC over time.

I haven't checked on that, but if they don't take back the RC delegation after a time, that's not good. They should do that, and each account they onboard should learn to increase their own HP over time. And yes, that would be a way for DBuzz to recycle their own RCs to use them on more users and to get more account creation tokens. Most big projects do that, so if they don't, they should start doing it.

It looks like DBuzz is doing a great job in onboarding people. I think you are right to talk about retention and the HP delegated out to them. It would be interesting to see information about those onboarded users and I hope they are able to get enough RCs to onboard more people.

and the HP delegated out to them

Not HP. It's better if people delegate only RCs to them (because that's what DBuzz needs) and keep the HP, so they can benefit from curation rewards.

I hope they rectify the situation soon. It's hard to onboard when the RC aren't ample to handle it.

I'm sure they created that DBuzz post hoping they'll receive some support... Dolphins and above won't lose anything for delegating RCs (unless they expect to onboard themselves tons of users), it's just a matter of wanting to do it, mostly.

For RCs, you have plenty if you use Hive as a regular user. The RCs from 100 HP would normally be enough for a regular user. But to be safe, you could keep the RCs from 500 HP (which is about half your RCs). If you want to test things out, delegate 20b RCs (not HP!) to them. It's almost nothing, it won't affect you and it won't really help them... Just so you can get a feel on how much 20b means for you. Use PeakD if you want to delegate RCs, other interfaces may use a different denomination (like millions), and you might get things wrong.

I'll go ahead and send some over, my RC's are always at 100% anyway. I may only have 2500 HP but if can help onboard and retain new people well worth the investment!
