4th Attempt...

avatar

It's the 3rd half-written post I deleted already and I'm pissed. I don't work well when I'm distracted. And I had plenty of interruptions and dead times today.

Obviously, everyone experiences distractions nowadays and that's no excuse to not get things done. And everyone works better when they are focused and uninterrupted on a task.

But somehow, I wasn't able to get back into focus today after all the distractions and wasn't able to follow through with any of the topics I tried to write about in the previous 3 attempts.

It was also getting a little late compared to my usual time to start writing my posts, and a time-crisis perception might have circled my mind.

In reality, it's not truly a time crisis, I still have plenty of time to write a decent post. But the perception is real and I started feeling it, especially after I found myself in front of a blank screen for the 2nd time. Since then, I tried once more, and it didn't work out.

It's not what people would call "writer's block", although I had that too in the past. But not for a very long time. It seems the longer you keep writing without taking significant breaks (like weeks or more), the easier it is to keep doing it.

I had three ideas (this is the 4th, but just a free write) to work on, and I could have had more.

But somehow my brain wasn't able to focus all the way to make them into full posts. Maybe the ideas weren't great either. I had different ideas too, but they required more time to better analyze the topic and decide what to write about.

I'd rather think it's a little bit of exhaustion or burnout (funny, I read about perception and burnout yesterday). But I haven't been sleeping very well lately, and maybe that is taking its toll.

I haven't even updated my collection of posts in two or three weeks, although I keep saying I'll do it. Normally, I do it once a week. But I'll get to that... eventually. 😄 I promise!

Overall not a great day to post something for me. But I wanted to mark the wasted time on the 3 half-written posts somehow.

It's a good way to pick what interests you.

When that happens to me I take a nap... then try again.

It makes sense. But too late to take a nap. I'll go to sleep earlier, however. I realize I might have the early symptoms of the flu. People in my family have it, so it's likely I could have gotten it.

Well, I'll just go to sleep earlier than my usual time, since it seems I caught the flu.

Darn! I'm feeling responsible for your problems with the content creation... I said yesterday how you did a great job with creating content every day and almost jinxed your streak! 😃

Nah! It looks like I caught the flu. That explains the feeling of exhaustion and my lack of focus earlier.

Huh... Sorry to hear that... I hope you are wrong and after a good night's rest, you will be better tomorrow!

I can understand what you want to say. Sometimes we distracted alot and can't write and whenever I go through this position, I stop doing anything and just calm and relaxed. So you can do much better.

Yeah, my day yesterday didn't help, with all sorts of interruptions.

I experience writer’s block so many times too
And that’s why I don’t write if I’m not in the mood…

Yeah, probably better to avoid writing when you can't focus on it.

I frequently experience that. I think I read somewhere that a distraction will require 23 minutes before a person recovers their focus. Of course it depends on what the task at hand is. But if it requires a lot of planning and thinking, like coding, or writing, then I can see that being the case. I would also suggest making a list of possible topics. On the days that you are having difficulty thinking of one, you can just pick one from that list.

I had enough ideas to write about, but no fully written post that I could use.

I remember something similar.

Getting into a good mental state to write can be hard when there are distractions around. In such cases, what I usually do is to stop trying to get into that mental state and go focus on something else for a bit before re-entering into the previous mental state again.

I think taking a distance and coming back later should work. But in my case, it wouldn't have, since those were the initial symptoms of getting sick.

Ah, I see. That couldn't be avoided and one just have to go through the process. I pray you recover soon from it :)

I had more than enough sleep in the last 16 hours or so, but due to sickness. I'll have to see how I feel after I get better.

Sometimes it happens to me intact it happens today. All I did was to take a break, refresh my mind and come back

In normal conditions, it should work.

Probably you should actually take a break and come back with a fresh inspiration to write actually
