This little Colonial house is located next to a park called "San Felipe El Fuerte", very well known here in my city. Although at first glance it looks like a normal little house, the truth is that it holds a lot of history inside.

Saludos amigos, hace poco compartí con la comunidad mi primera publicación y me resulta grato poder compartir con ustedes la segunda. Esta vez no les hablaré de un edificio como del que les hablé anteriormente, que se estaba hundiendo por estar construido en suelo arcilloso, no. Esta vez les hablaré de una pequeña casa con un poco más de historia, vamos, estoy siendo modesto, es una casa con un montón de historia.

Esta pequeña casa Colonial está ubicada junto a un parque llamado "San Felipe El Fuerte", muy conocido aquí en mi ciudad. Aunque a simple vista parece una casita normal, lo cierto es que guarda mucha historia en su interior.

Although the main entrance is the one you can see in the image above, I decided to turn the house around and enter through what would be the exit.

While it is the exit, it could also be called a side entrance. This gives us access to an exhibit of the entire history of what the city was like in colonial times. It is like a small museum with showcases and small exhibits full of history.

Aunque la entrada principal es la que pueden observar en la imagen de arriba, yo decidí darle la vuelta a la casa y entrar por lo que vendría a ser la salida.

Si bien es la salida, también se le podría llamar una entrada lateral. Esto nos da acceso a una exhibición de toda la historia de lo que fue la ciudad en la época de la Colonia. Es como un pequeño museo con vitrinas y pequeñas exhibiciones cargadas de historia.

It happens that in the year 1812 an earthquake occurred that destroyed this entire city of San Felipe and now only ruins remain. A few months ago I had the privilege of visiting the park, but I could not enter this colonial house because it was closed.

Well, relatively recently I was able to return to the place and now this colonial house was open, where I was able to take the photos that I have already shown you and all the ones I show you below.

Sucede que en el año 1812 ocurrió un terremoto que destruyó toda esta ciudad de San Felipe y ahora solo quedan ruinas. Hace unos meses tuve el privilegio de visitar el parque, pero no pude entrar a esta casa colonial porque estaba cerrada.

Pues bien, hace relativamente poco pude volver al lugar y ahora sí estaba abierta esta casa colonial, donde pude tomar las fotos que ya les mostré un todas las que les muestro a continuación.

It is interesting that despite the fact that everything is ruins, they managed to create in this small house/museum all this exhibition of small objects that at that time were everyday objects, such as a pair of keys, bayonets and even shackles.

It is admirable how all these things have also been preserved in this house despite the deterioration they suffered, because they are objects that, if we think about it, are more than 200 years old.

Es interesante que a pesar de que todo es ruinas, lograron crear en esta pequeña casa/museo toda esta exhibición de pequeños objetos que en esa época eran cotidianos, como un par de llaves, bayonetas e incluso grilletes.

Es admirable cómo todas estas cosas se han conservado también en esta casa a pesar del deterioro que sufrieron, pues son objetos que, si nos ponemos a pensar, tienen más de 200 años.

In the showcases there are also very well preserved drawings and documents of the time, handwritten documents and drawings created by the hand of talents of those times, as it is evident that there were no machines like today's ones.

En las vitrinas también se guardan muy bien conservados dibujos y documentos de la época, documentos escritos a mano y dibujos creados de la mano de talentos de esos tiempos, pues es evidente que no existían máquinas como las de ahora.

Overall, this first room of this beautiful colonial house makes you imagine what it must have been like to live in those times, because the house is built in a way that invites you to think about that.

Look at the photo below, there you can see the shape of the windows, as it was very common to see this type of gigantic windows in the houses. Also the ceilings were like this, made of cane and with huge wooden pillars that supported all the weight.

Seeing what this room was like, with all those objects with so much history puts you in perspective and makes you imagine, as I said, what it would have been like to live in that era.

En conjunto, esta primera habitación de esta bellísima casa colonial te hace imaginar cómo habrá sido vivir en esos tiempos, pues la casa está construida de una manera que te invita a pensar en eso.

Fíjense en la foto que está más abajo, allí podrán ver la forma que tienen las ventanas, pues era muy común ver este tipo de ventanales gigantescos en las casas. También los techos eran así, hechos de caña y con enormes pilares de madera que sostenían todo el peso.

Ver cómo era esta habitación, con todos esos objetos con tanta historia te pone en perspectiva y te hace imaginar, como ya dije, cómo habría sido vivir en esa época.

Once out of that first room, one enters the central courtyard of the house, as these little houses were like that, they had an entrance to the main courtyard and around this courtyard were the other rooms.

Ya fuera de esa primera habitación, uno entra al patio central de la casa, pues estas casitas eran así, tenían una entrada al patio principal y alrededor de este patio estaban las demás habitaciones.

Although technically the doors that give access to the rooms are not so old, they do keep as an exhibit a door, or at least a part of it, that was from those times. It hangs on the wall and is constantly being maintained to keep it in good condition.

You can also see a bust of Simón Bolívar that serves as decoration in one of the corridors surrounding the central patio.

Aunque técnicamente las puertas que dan acceso a las habitaciones no son tan antiguas, sí guardan como exhibición una puerta, o al menos una parte, que fue de esos tiempos. Cuelga en la pared y constantemente se le hace mantenimiento para conservarla en buen estado.

También pueden ver un busto de Simón Bolívar que sirve de como decoración de uno de los pasillos que rodea el patio central.

Another chair that also dates back to those years is also noteworthy. Evidently it is forbidden for people to sit there. Although it is very well preserved, the idea is that it can continue to be preserved in this condition, so you can see that it has a rope to prevent people from sitting on it.

This is something necessary, because when all these exhibits are exposed there is a risk that someone can touch each of these antiques.

Llama la atención también otra silla que también era de aquellos años. Evidentemente está prohibido que las personas se sienten allí. Si bien está muy bien conservada, la idea es que se pueda seguir conservando en esas condiciones, por ello pueden ver que tiene una cuerda para evitar que se sienten las personas.

Esto es algo necesario, pues al estar expuestas todas estas exhibiciones se corre el riesgo de que alguien pueda tocar cada una de estas antigüedades.

As you can see, the central patio of this small colonial house is beautiful not only for the view of these antiques, but also for the greenery that surrounds it and the flowers and hanging plants around it.

Look at the photo below, there you can see the cane roof of this colonial house and the huge pillars that support it.

Como ven, el patio central de esta pequeña casa colonial es hermoso no solo por la vista de estas antigüedades, sino también por el verde que lo rodea y las flores y plantas colgantes que tiene alrededor.

Fíjense en la foto a continuación, allí se puede ver el techo de caña que luce esta casa colonial y los enormes pilares que lo sostienen.

These houses had only one entrance, the main entrance. Where I entered the house would be a side door, which is not the entrance. But you can take a look at the last two photos that accompany this post to see what the main hallway or entrance of this little colonial house looked like.

There is the front door, with a beautifully decorated floor, chairs, plants and the cane ceiling that continue to accompany us throughout the tour. Seeing this roof reminds me that these lands were sugar cane producers, so I am not surprised that they used some of its varieties for the purpose of making a roof for the houses.

Undoubtedly an architecture and design that is well worth admiring to give us an idea of what it was like to live in those times.

Estas casas tenían una sola entrada, la principal. Por donde yo entré a la casa vendría a ser una puerta lateral, que no es la entrada. Pero pueden ver las últimas dos fotos con las que acompaño la publicación para que vean cómo lucía el pasillo principal o la entrada de esta casita colonial.

Allí está la puerta principal, con un piso bellamente decorado, sillas, plantas y el techo de caña que siguen acompañándonos a lo largo del recorrido. Ver este techo me hace recordar que estas tierras eran productoras de caña, así que no me sorprende que usaran alguna de sus variedades para el propósito de hacer un tejado para las casas.

Sin duda una arquitectura y diseño que bien vale la pena admirar para darnos una idea de cómo era vivir en esos tiempos.
